Leap Year

Most men look stupid with that 'nineties icon, the goatee, and Goode is no exception. He and Adams are both semi-likeable but horribly, horribly, horribly fall into the stereotypes that Americans have of a visit to Ireland.

Adams's character informs some Welsh women (with no evidence that she is supposed to be making a mistake) that women proposing on Leap Day is an Irish tradition. It is extremely well established in the U.K. and I expect lots of places. I have never heard of there being anything especially Irish about it.

The film was bizarrely released on the Friday the furthest possible from a Leap Day. In it, 29th February is a Monday or, if I have misremembered slightly, a Sunday. If the former then the film is probably set in in 2016 and if the latter probably 2004, either quite an odd choice. The oddest choice of all was naming days of the week, since this was totally unnecessary anyway.

However, having since seen The Bounty Hunter, I now look back on this film quite fondly: 2/5.
