According to Sal, it's time for our newest challenge!

Here are the rules this time: reviews have to be about the movie in question (well duh, otherwise they wouldn't be approved), but they should ALSO contain a hidden message of some sort that's not actually related to the film. This can be a lot of fun because it will also give us all the opportunity to try and guess what the hidden message is. So don't give it away when you post your review here!

Here's my contribution to get us started. I'm actually a little disappointed to have to give away the fact that there's a hidden message in it, but since it's never gotten a vote it's possible it was so well hidden that nobody would ever realize there WAS a hidden message if I hadn't said so.

Most of my reviews do this, but here's a new one for you to work out.

Too subtle for me. I don't get it. But I'm sure someone will.

Nice.

Looking through my reviews it seems hidden 'messages' aren't my thing I'll have to have a go at that.

Well I got the pun but I still don't see the message. But I'm sure it's brilliant.

This one is more of a wish than a message. Consider it my hopes for my home-town baseball league.

This works on three levels.

This one, on two.

I can't tell for sure, but I think BiggerBoat misinterpreted what you mean by 'hidden message.'

Here's two I recently FYCTH'ed, but I'm inordinately proud of them so I'll show them again:

Driving Miss Daisy
The Defiant Ones

I must be thick because I don't get this....what are the three levels that the Wonder Boys review are working on?

Wow, nearly everyone's getting stumped. I like that! This is the most thought-provoking challenge yet. I propose that at a predetermined date, the authors reveal the hidden messages in the reviews they've submitted here. I was thinking sometime around Nov. 1st, or even much later...but I'll let people offer their opinions about that idea.

I think they'll have to reveal their hidden messages before that or they won't be getting any votes!

I'm not sure of the difference between using a double meaning (my standard aim for all reviewing) and actually concealing something within the review. I'm seeing double meanings, but not much concealment.

For example Bigger Boat's one is a nice play on words but I don't see the hidden meaning because the Spartans in the film aren't losing their hair.

I'll tentatively submit the following....

One of mine for 300, since it came up.

Tommy

and three that point out their hidden meaning pretty clearly via punctuation (for the sake of votes you understand...)

Hamlet

Requiem for a Dream

Happiness

Some of these have been seen recently in FYC, sorry about that.

I think there has been a lot of confusion here. When Downtown e-mailed me, I took the concept to be reviews which comment on a matter unrelated to the film (and not necessarily really 'hidden'). Thus they shouldn't be just puns on random phrases. Anyway, this is how I am going to interpret it until Downtown says otherwise.
