NB: In "Capricorn One" a manned mission to Mars is cancelled, and then faked. In "Theatre of Blood" Vincent Price's theatre actor takes revenge on the critics who ended his career. In "Eraserhead" our splendidly coiffed hero marries into the 'X' family. Sarah Miles plays the title character, torn between her Irish roots and a British officer, in "Ryan's Daughter". Artist Erik falls in love with Olga Stapels in "Turkish Delight". |

The Lady, Besson's terrific biopic of Aung San Suu Kyi, focuses on her relationship with her husband Michael Aris who remained supportive but at home in Oxford throughout her house arrest ordeal until he passed away of a rapidly advancing prostate cancer. Technically, she wasn't under house arrest the moment he died, but had she gone home (as the thugs ruling Burma invited her to do), she wouldn't have been allowed to return. I haven't found the time to the review that would do justice to this film, but I felt that Besson, aided by a skilled cast & crew, nailed it.
On a lighter note, Star Wars. |
