I opened my FWFR page this morning to find 17, count 'em, 17 brand, new, spanking-clean, rejections overnight. Wow! Is that a record of some kind? Like, do I get a prize for being the crappiest Top 100 reviewer here, or what?

Even if it isn't a record, it took me all day to delete, explain, slighly revise or think up new ones for the reviews I had submitted. Made me think, it did. And that's a good thing, if you ask me.

So with all humility and I assure you I'm being totally sincere (insert absolutely NO smilies here), I'd like to thank the MERPs for helping me try to become a better reviewer here. Keep those rejections coming, whatever doesn't kill me will only make me stronger!

I've tried various variations on a similar theme - putting Marin's name into the word "American". For instance:
...There were more, but I forget them all.

To misquote Man of La Mancha... To dream the impossible pun...

Anti-A-Marin-can activities. (rejected when it was spelled Merin)
A-Marin-can Rudy's erronious deportation. (rejected, then deleted)
(A)Marin can't go home? (new one added today)

There was one where I wrote it "Ameri(n)can", corrected it to "Amari(n)can" but then deleted it.

One possible issue here is that none of these are words. I.e., it's likely to be easier to get reviews accepted if they contain real words, not words that you made up yourself.

Of course, acceptances do feel better, but I'm actually quite happy to get these rejections. I think I've been pushing the "grab the accolade" button too hard and not giving it as much thought as I did in the beginning. I also think I'm submitting more than when I started hoping that the more reviews I submit the better chance one of them has for getting accepted. That's probably eroded the quality of some of my reviews. So its a kick in the pants and I'm happy to step up to the challenge.

I don't explain my submissions. I figure, since they have to stand on their own if they're accepted, they might as well start now. The only exception is when what I think is a really, really good one turns up declined; then I'll try just one more time, adding a bit of help.

And yes, like everybody else, I still get declines. But my decline percentage has, er, declined, since I was a newbie. It's just a matter of getting the hang of it.

Also like everybody else, several glittering examples of my majestic brilliance have gone unappreciated by the cretinous editors. When I was new to the site, I too used to post and appeal for help. Now it just rolls off my back. There's no accounting for taste and never will be. Usually, on reflection, it turns out the editors were right. And I can always come up with something else.

Okay, so Perhaps I should only count 16 of them.

However, this morning I opened up to find 31 rejections!!!

HURRAH!!!

I thinlk the Mewrps have tightened up their acceptance standards or you and i have slipped in our standards as i am getting a few more rejections than usual myself.

I still get a lot of declines....I think I had about twelve or so new ones when I logged in the other day.

Yikes! That's quite a lot! If you don't understand why they got the bullet, you're welcome to either post a few of them here and I'll comment, or if you don't want to do that in public then you're most welcome to send me a PM with a few and I'll see if I can explain what's wrong. With that number, there's obviously some rule or something that you haven't quite got a handle on. It happens to us all when we start out. These days I don't get too many declines, and very very few that come as a surprise, I'd simply put that down to having made a concerted effort to work out the rules, plus trial and error.

Yep, I've got a few of those too. It's just a matter of our Supreme Commander getting his arse into gear and not earning a living, sleeping, eating, spending time with friends and family and doing what's important in life..... ADDING OUR MOVIES!

And doing the other 1000 things on the list of stuff we've given him to do...

At least you can't complain about inactivity

Josh the cat

I'm not complaining. I got a bunch of new reviews accepted as well. I'm enjoying the challenge of trying to make the not so good reviews into good enough to be accepted ones.

(However, I could make a teeny-tiny bit of noise about all the new films I'm trying to get added not getting much attention. But I'm sure they'll come with time. Most are to make my "Kissed by Kate" accolade more comprehensive. A few are for a new accolade I want to make - movies with "Gay" in the title that have nothing to do with homosexuality.)

He does. His face is sort of grafted on the back of Quirrel's head like a conjoined twin. Which raises the following point - Why didn't he suffocate under the turban?

I would say, because (if "saw" was capitalised as per my previous post) taken literally it is a command/recommendation to go and see the movie because it's great. I.e. it is a (albeit short) review for the movie Saw, and this is (very loosely) a movie review site. The fact that it is also a clever pun on see-saw is technically an aside, but is what makes the review beyond the mundane.

Yep, but if a command to go see a movie was an allowable 'style', then what's to stop someone submitting:-

"See Titanic, it rocks"
"See Batman, it rocks"
"See Superman, it rocks"

and doing that 1000 times in a day and being the fastest Oracle ever? Sure, a see-saw rocks, but there isn't a see-saw in that movie, so it makes that review a statement about something that has no connection at all with the movie. I.e., it's a gag with no home.

Mine was "See saw it rocks" for Saw.
On first glance it appears to be a lame, generic review, such as "See Titanic, it rocks"
But a see saw is also a playground toy that rocks back and forth.
I think I've seen this one mentioned before. If there's no see-saw in the movie, then that part is irrelevant. I.e., what's a statement about a rocking see-saw got to to with the movie Saw other than saying you liked the movie?
