Hi all,

I'm trying to build a list of reviews.

Have you seen my website, www.grammarmancomic.com ?

If not, have a quick look. It's aimed at people learning or teaching English.

Now ... in my free stuff section, I have a small selection of movie resources (worksheets, quizzes etc). I want to add a FWFR quiz, where students have to guess movies based on a FWFR.

Do you have any suitable reviews in your lists? Since they're for people learning English, I want to avoid tricky puns, clever wordplay and obscure references. I'm looking for more straightforward reviews that sum up a film in a clear, easy-to-follow way. I'd also prefer big movies from the last five years or so, so that the quiz has a more current feel to it.

What do you get in return (apart from the thought of thousands of English students learning from your review)? Well - if your review is good enough for me to use, it's good enough for me to vote on.

And I'll also pay a visit to your folder and find a selection of other good reviews vote on.

So - lets have 'em!!

Yeah, the more I think about it, the more I reckon I should replace the blood-laden films with something more suitable to younger site-visitors ... spy kids would be a good one. Maybe King Kong?

Mauybe some Disney and Disney imitators and Spy kids/Agent Cody Banks stuff wouldn't go astray

Or even rate your quiz into two categories

1. Children

2. Young Adults.

My site only gets about 100 visitor a day, but who knows ... maybe it'll bring some more newbies to FWFR.

I was wondering - do you think I should switch some of the films? I was thinking teachers with younger teen students might not use the quiz because it includes films like Saw II, The Ring and Kill Bill Vol I .... do you think I should switch those movies for something more suited to a young audience??

How young is your audience? Tell me that and then I'll let you know if I think you should change any of the movies.

(I've got three - 13, 16 and 21 plus my sister teaches High School, so... )

That's a fine little quiz you got me into.

Hope they enjoyed it.

Thanks for the votes

Thanks everyone who offered their reviews. GHcool - sorry, too late! I just put the quiz online a few minutes ago. It's here for anyone who wants to see:

http://www.grammarmancomic.com/fwfr.html

You'll notice I also used some reviews which weren't put forward in this thread ... sorry! If anyone sees their review there and wants it removed, just say the word. I voted for each one that I 'borrowed' (hope I didn't miss anyone out).

You'll also notice I called the quiz 'Films in Four Words' ... that's because most of them don't actually review the film in question, and I didn't want to confuse students about the difference in meaning between a review and a summary. However, I did put a link to the FWFR and also mentioned the FWFR site in the accompanying teaching notes.

Finally - to the kind people who responded to this thread, offering their reviews ... whether I ended up using your reviews or not, I'll now go to each of your folders (including you, GHcool) and vote on 10 or more reviews I like.

Cheers all!!

I'll bite.

Here are some straight forward ones from me:

"Mutant in White House." for X2
"Nasty Nazis steal scroll." for Bulletproof Monk
"Sex jinxes pitcher's performance." for Bull Durham
"Winona sees dead people." for Beetlejuice
"Cage learns to adapt." for Adaptation
"Ford's first Force foray." for Star Wars: A New Hope
"George Lucas's master narrative." for Star Wars: A New Hope

Check out Tori's reviews, she does a great job of boiing a movie down to it's four word core in a manner that even those with a limited grasp of the language should easily be able to understand.
