Put any five reviews you like in your F.Y.C. list. The only rule is to not use the ones from the previous round - you must change them every round. Post here to declare that you've done it. Sooner is better than later. You must read the F.Y.C.s of all participants. The next round starts on Monday or Thursday at 6:00 a.m. FWFR time, whichever comes next.

Yes, but only one 'High Moon'.
They're all good, though (those five, not "'High Noon' in space"!) - I've voted for all five.
Seein' as no one had done this for Keith Moon, I'm crossing my fingers for approval there. |

My fav was Lemmy's "High Moon." which is very smart.
There are actually five good High Noon puns for that film!

What a coincidence! That's my birthday also.
Actually, it's not that much of a coincidence. It's a well-known counterintuitive result that you only need to get 24 or so people together before chances are better than 50-50 a pair of them share a birthday.
Happy birthday.
But surely the 24 thing is for any unspecified pair. Given a specific person mentioning his birthday (chazbo) or given being a specific person (you), it is still a coincidence if another person out of 24 has that birthday. (I realise that you are probably a mathematician and I am asking for trouble... )
Absolutely. But I figured the unspecified pair was a better fit for this scenario, since chazbo could just have easily been anyone mentioning at any time of year that they just had a birthday. So when I called it a coincidence, I was referring more to any two fourumites (or any two participants in this round of FYCTH) sharing a birthday.
If you fix someone (which is the same thing as fixing a birthday), then you need 40 more people to get a 10% chance of sharing that birthday. So viewed from that perspective, it is a coincidence. |

Posted - 11/08/2006 : 15:17:29 Thanks Ali - just voted for ten of your best.
The "Lukewarm Water" line is in the released film - it's one of my favourites. You're right about the DVD - most of the deleted scenes could have made it into the main film with no problem at all. And the "in character" commentary is hilarious as well. "None more black". |

Posted - 11/08/2006 : 15:09:06 OK - I've just voted for Nigel Tufnel: Ice.
There is a line in the film by Derek Smalls where he explains the difference between the two leaders of the band, David and Nigel, by calling the former "fire" and the latter "ice." He then thinks for a moment and adds that he is "lukewarm water." It might be in the deleted scenes, mind; I can't remember.
The Spinal Tap DVD is one of the very few ones with extras that are any good. There is a bit called "A Conversation with Marty DiBergi," where he goes (and I am paraphrasing but the punchline): "I did a lot of commercials, after which I had my first big break which was directing Kramer vs Kramer vs Godzilla." I piss myself every time (though that has more to do with my chronic incontinence).

V&V for all...
Can someone do me a favour and bring my three "Spinal Tap" reviews to the same level? The punchline has always been one ahead of the others, but it's funnier if they stay together. Would be most grateful (*cough* votes) to the person who'd help me out.
I tried but someone else will have to vote for "Nigel Tufnel: Ice."
Thanks Choccy, going to nose around your reviews now. Any takers? |
