I am sure I am not the only one who has had reviews declined for reasons that boggle the mind. Can we have a fourum (for fun only) of submissions of declined reviews, or does that break the rules.

Here are three of mine that were declined (no reason given)

Note: I have resubmitted them with further explanation and they are now back in my huge "pending reviews" pile and may yet be approved

2001: A Space Odyssey - To the Moon, HAL-ice!
All The President's Men - Spoiler Alert! Nixon Resigns
Bowling for Columbine - Fahrenheit 3.57

I'm not fishing for compliments, just curious as to why some reviews get rejected and others (that frankly, seem pretty blah) get approved

Teen(r)age 'Vorsprung Durch Technik'

Is that the one about the fabricated serial killer? If so, I'm not sure i see the relevance of the Audi strapline - Progress Through Technology. But I like Teenrage!

Yes - I think the tenuous link with the Audi tagline was the problem. A key point in the film is the use of modern communication technology - sms, video phones, computers and so on - so I used the tagline as a short cut to get that across.

I'm struggling with putting teenrage in the review now - but I'll get there....

I had this review declined for War of the Worlds some time ago. It was apparently too generic, but i was specifically alluding to scientology (Tom Cruise's religion)and the alien attack in the movie.

Lord Xenu strikes back

Should i resubmit? Maybe some of the MERPs are scientologists lol

I tend to judge places by historical sites, dog walks and pub lunches

Nice place to be based. Did you get to the "Satis House" in Yoxford? (Hotel and Malaysian restaurant). It's one of those places on my wish-list that we haven't got round to visiting yet.

The dogs in tow limited our options a bit, but we got to a few good pubs and places with outside tables, luckily the weather was great (except Friday). The only place who's name I can remember was The Eels Foot Inn - real ale and home made grub

Hi MrHJ

I'm based here , but I live about halfway between Ipswich and Felixstowe. I work at a foundry in Woodbridge. Mobeusi is a workmate of mine who I've recently dragged in for a bit of fun.

Where are you??

Sleepy Suffolk - a hotbed of fwiffering.

Often a reason is given, but often not. In the latter case, it is often because the reason for the decision is less definable, or because it is a mixture of multiple reasons.

You're getting there, but if you really want to hit the heights you have to get cleverer still. Take my 'Sideways' review: Walking in Vintner Wonderland. Not only does it give an indication of what actually happens in the film, it is also a play on words of a famous song. That's where you get your votes, by going that next step.

That's an excellent review, BB--just tracked it down & voted on it.

Cheers Buddy.

I don't think your review is particularly generic, and I'd really doubt that it was rejected for that reason, but, as best I can tell without having seen the film, I wonder about its accuracy or relevance. Always bear in mind that the wittiness of a review may get you the votes, but it won't help to get it accepted.

My advice, for what its worth, is to always consider the review in an entirely literal way. OK, I accept that the main meaning of brogue is an Irish accent, but is Wilde's accent important to the film? (Is he even played with an Irish accent?) Does Wilde go back to the mountains? Are there any mountains? If you wrote this review for a film about a gay Irishman who returned to the mountains then it would be accepted, but otherwise it's going into your reject pile.

That's the way it works around here.

No gay Irishmen, but here's a review with an accent.
