i thought this one, though hilarious to me, had only a slim chance of making it through.
many of the characters in "Boyz N The Hood," including Ice Cube and the character he kills at the end, wore the mysteriously popular-at-the-time hairstyle known as the jheri curl, seen here, worn by O'Shea "Ice Cube" Jackson.
sadly, the MERPS saw fit to reject "When Curls Collide."  |

It would since Helen of Troy and The Trojan War are considered flawed classics (especially the former), and the Trojan Horse is clearly a huge development in both. I can think of at least one documentary, The Trojans, that also investigates historical links with the legend, and, again, the review would also be fine for that one, too.

If you want to see the downside of trying to tell someone about a problem with their review (rather than just reporting it), and I don't assign any blame here, look at the recent "Mike Tyson" thread. "Foxboy Gets Ears Boxed".
I learned a long time ago how badly an honest straight-forward approach can be received by some people, so now I only raise a review problem directly with those who I feel would take it in the right spirit.
Anyone else, where appropriate, its the anonymity of the report button I'm afraid.

Hhmmm, I still don't agree with this sentiment. Perhaps surprisingly, I don't report many reviews, just occasional ones that should definitely be removed (except for the addition of any borderline Alan Smithee ones), and there is no point in having any discussion of those. |

It is, to this day, the only review I've ever reported and will remain that way. The reason I originally reported it, months and months and months ago, was not just because it was too generic (which it was, by the way). It was a month or so after I'd started posting on the boards, and I was taken aback by - what I considered to be - your puritannical, antagonistic and mean-spirited obsession about rules and regulations. I thought, "OK, let's see if he likes the taste of his own medicine."
Looking back, it was a knee-jerk and juvenile reaction. Firstly, because I have since come to know you, and, albeit peculiar, you are not a mean-spirited person (in fact, you are one of my favourite posters) - you just have complete courage of your convictions. Secondly, because whatever the reason, reporting a review without telling the reviewer first is akin to smelling one's dirty socks after taking them off at the end of the day. It's disgusting, and only morons do it. So I am sorry.
Anyway, as I said before, it works perfectly well under the new rules, and maybe you should resubmit your review.

Re chicks - all women are chicks in the part of the world I am living in. Old, young, attractive, unattractive. Until Sal explained it to me, I simply read the review and saw it as a statement - she was the Tory leader, she's a woman - what's the joke?
Re Thatcher's attractiveness - apparently when she was the 'new chick on the block' she was regarded as having a strange sexual attractiveness to some of the politicans in her sphere of operation. In later years, it was the power thing, I think. |

After a long life on the site, my review "Fear Greeks bearing gifts" was recently rejected. Now, I don't think this is a good review, since it is just a quotation (albeit one which is sufficiently encompassing to represent the film), but I do object to its being rejected as 'Too generic'. Under current conditions, I think this couldn't really be considered too 'generic' even if it weren't a quotation. However, since it is (and one which refers specifically to the Wooden Horse episode of the Siege of Troy), it definitely cannot be considered so - there are not so many Troy films. |
