Hi All

Please help me understand a decline on what I thought was a succinct and alliterative FWFR, which was re-submitted with an explanation. The first reject was: 'don't understand'; the 2nd was: 'factually inaccurate'. I've seen the film twice and I know it's not inaccurate.

I'll abandon it if the feeling here is to forget it, but I still like it - though I hated the film.

The film is Premonition, [
SOME SPOILERS AHEAD
]
which in my critical opinion is about the way a young married woman might cope with the aftermath of grief when her husband is killed. Though the scene-by-scene incidents of the plot are predicated from her pov so that the film works for the audience as some kind of [imho - dumb] supernatural story, it's clear to me that the emotional reality is different from the film's reality as a piece of storytelling.

Now, you may not agree that the woman denies her widowhood by an elaborate manipulation of the reality of her husband's death until the end resolution when she actually witnesses it, which can also be read as her memory finally returning allowing her to get over the debacle and move on ... but I don't believe you can deny it COULD be read that way.

Okay - trying to get all that into 4 words I came up with
De widow's denial: debacle.

Sorry to bother you , but after all these months I thought I'd got a bit better at stuff like this

Thanks for any constructive ideas

Good point, Tori ... thanks for that [though I recall Ford being the one more in denial] ... but anyway, this thread has made me realize that my Premonition FWFR IS much too generic. I suppose I'd have been less sniffy about the decline if it hadn't said it was factually inaccurate.
Ah well -- ya live, ya loin

Thanks to you all for helping me put this in perspective. Review? What review?!

You know, with a little tweaking, your review could become "Dutch Wife; Denial, Debacle", which is a perfect (and FACTUALLY ACCURATE)
fwfr for this gem from the Netherlands:

If all else fails, you could apply the wordplay to a review for De-Lovely. I think if you submitted 'De-bacle' for that it would get a passel of votes.

Ya know, I might just do that. The more I look at the Premonition review the less I like it ... mind you, I STILL don't believe it's inaccurate.

Thanks, M0rkeleb

PS tell me what to change the other thread title to and I'll happily oblige.

I know it can be infuriating when what you think of as brilliant wordplay comes back to you with "too generic"... I have this problem all the time and sop do not submit as much as I used to

Thanks, RFluff -- actually the decline was "factually inaccurate." I'm suggesting it's a matter of interpretation. My choice of debacle can [and in my case should] be read as my take on the film, not [only] the fact that her denial causes her life to turn upside down.

I don't really think it's "brilliant wordplay" - but I'm glad you think it's clever. I just don't understand how it's inaccurate, despite what bife has posted.

Isn't "Some spoilers ahead" too generic? Can't it apply to any movie where something bad happens to somebody later in the movie, such as Titanic or Scarface?

Sorry for the misunderstand, Yukon ... ,Some spoilers ahead, was a warning. My review is revealed later down the post.

Would love your input, tho!

I would be one who would just see it as a flawed supernatural story, but I endorse your point that a different view should be valid as a review.

What is the De? Is it The? I would find Da more typical for this. Maybe it's a bit too generic (widows are frequently in denial, and some such films are sure to be a mess), but you haven't been given that reason. I would pass it.

Edit: I regret moving this post, but it is too late now.
