Posted - 09/19/2008 : 10:01:17 I've come up with a game to encourage people to seek out and highlight others' underrated reviews.
Here's how it works:
(1) Post links* to individual reviews not by you that you think have been overlooked and thus that visitors to the thread may not have voted for but will want to. *Links should only include the reviews you wish to highlight and should be made as unlikely to become incorrect as possible. (The best way to do this is to go to the film's page, put it in real chronological order, select 'My reviews only', change the I.D. number from your own to the person's in question, change the number of reviews to 1 and if need be change the start number from 1.) Links should not be restricted to unvoted by the viewer only, as the point of this idea is to try to select reviews that people probably haven't voted for.
(2) For every review that you have thus highlighted, post a link (or links) to up to ten of your own reviews, unvoted by the viewer. You can of course combine sets of ten together if applicable and you want to.
(3) For every review in category (1) that you newly vote for, carefully consider the the relevant (top/next) ten in category (2). For example, if Aloysius posts ten and one hundred respective reviews in one post and you vote for six of the former (the other four not taking your fancy or having already been voted on by you), you should take an unhurried look at the top sixty of the latter.
You may give explanations as you see fit, bearing in mind that any explanation annoys some people while unnecessary explanation causes others to find a review less funny or clever than they otherwise would.
It's fine to post in dribs and drabs if you want to. For example, you could post one review by someone else with ten of your own, and later on three more with another thirty, and so on. |

I cannot set these ten as unvoted by you. |

"Royale" may not be a perfect fit, but who really cares? By taking the "e" away makes it less specifically a spin on "Casino Royale", which is what gives the review its spin. You offer improvements but currently 19 people like it; I think that makes it a pretty successful review already.
It's a valid review, but it's only a great one if the e refers to something other than just the pun. I voted for it, though, on the basis that that may be the case. |

Well, I just thought it was a nice play on "Casino Royale".
Sure, but it's a better review if Royale fits rather than just Royal. So let's give it the benefit of the doubt and say that the -e spelling is an allusion to the rather twee attitude that some Americans may be accused of having towards royalty.

I love this.
No idea how to post ten of my own. I'm sure good karma will take care of that though.

Well then, this one by GHCool might be a better choice.
Not a snowball's chance at a media party, I'm afraid! There are several older "Band of brothers"s on the site. You need to post another ten of yours with it, though.
Ah yes... Here's another ten of mine that someone might find worthy. |

MM0rkeleb got me with this one!
These ten of mine aren't quite as clever.
(Is this what you mean, Sal?)
Yes, in principle. However, as it's already got seventeen votes, it might be limited as to how many more it gets -- especially as, on the other hand, I haven't voted for it but don't get it. (I don't know anything about the film.)

"Looking for Richard" is Al Pacino's documentary about playing Shakespeare's Richard III and the perceptions of Shakespeare in America. Good film, excellent review...
Does it just mean "Royal Pacino" then or does the "-e" represent something? (I can imagine a case for it but am interested to see whether anyone else puts it forward too.) |
