I really have to say that I regard the use of the adverb "secretly" in the above sentence to be both grammatically inelegant and entirely unnecessary.
Simply the use of the adjective "secret" would have been more accurate and less grating.
You are very welcome to highlight grammatical errors of mine, but the above is not one. I considered both entirely valid forms and favoured the subtly different meaning in the one I chose.
I didn't say it was an "error" did I? I said it was inelegant and unnecessary.
If you want to get pedantic like that, I also did not say that you said it was an error. I have no interest in receiving lessons in elegance of Fourum posting from you. I don't agree that it was grammatically inelegant: anything can be subjectively considered stylistically inelegant, but that's not the same thing at all. Unnecessary implies its having been extraneous rather than the alternative choice that it was.
Now, if you have any constructive suggestions for the improvement of my reviews, that is a different matter, since the whole point of four-word film reviews is that they are an exercise in selecting words as well as possible. |

Write out 'I made a grammatical mistake and I admit it' fifty times and hand it in to me by lunchtime, boy.

Whew! I think I got everyone.
It appears I updated my FYCs and didn't post the link, or possibly the recovered site predated my post (I don't remember).
Possibly all of Salopian's rules, and the exceptions thereto, deserve their own thread.
Ah, then NOW I've gotten everyone. |

At the moment I'm really into the 2nd series of The IT Crowd - They're all v. funny, but I think Richard Ayoade is a genius.
Love the first season. This guy ruined the last two seasons for me though (with some exceptions when he was somewhat absent). Why the writers think he must do sexual jokes every time he's on is beyond me.
Rockgolf, "Two Che." is awesome! |

Posted - 12/17/2008 : 14:50:02 Good. I've added a fifth to my original four. The 6-letter review is so stupid that it should be spelled "stoopid", but it amuses me. |
