Come now, I'm sure you do know who he is. You just need to see a picture of him http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0605923/

Nice "Blindness" review GHCool - although practically I have to disagree. I hated it unreservedly. |

I agree. (Note how unlike you I can admit something like this rather than getting in a strop.)
However, I thought "If you can't beat them, join them." There are so many invalid contractions on the site now that it unfairly disadvantages me if I stick to standards that no one else is held to. And at least, unlike some that people use, "y'are" is actually pronouncable.
Feel free to report the review, though.
I'm not sure when I've ever got in a strop, although I have pointed out that unsolicited advice on how a review can be improved is not something I approve of.
In this case I'm not commenting on the review itself, merely its validity. Agreed that there is a certain flexibility and relaxation of grammatical rules here on the site, but that is only tended to be used (or allowed) when attempting to draw attention to wordplay or other clever tricks. To actively contort grammatical rules in order to reduce wordcount isn't something I thought was allowed.
You're right that it is pronouncable, but I did find it strange that someone with your knowledge of grammar and your strict adherance to it would resort to such an act. I'm equally amazed by your explanation of not beating so joining. That's a very interesting precedent to set.
What would you think of a double contraction for instance? Something like y'all're? A great way to combine three words into one. Or even y'all're'nt, a four-word word?
Personally I think we're on dangerous ground if we start going down this route. Happy to continue discussing this on a new thread if anyone thinks it's appropriate'n'all. |

Hm... I thought I had entered this round and just spend a whole bunch of time voting, only to see that I didn't have any entries.
Never mind. Enjoy the votes people!
I just gave you four random votes, which is pretty much what you get from me each round anyway.
Also V-I-E-W-T-E-D in general. |
