I can't tell if you're being serious or not. If serious, I need explanations in order to appreciate these.

I think M. Night Shyamalan might be a good candidate for modern Orson Welles, from the alien invasion angle.

I like both tortoise and Mork's suggestions for Hugo Weaving. I think Chocky's list above is pretty clever too, especially Robert Downey Jr for Tony Curtis -- there we get the same picture of beauty and talent destroying itself through drug addiction. Good catch on Jack Black for Walter Matthau.
