i watched "Devil's Advocate" again recently, and i love the final scene with Lomax and Milton more every time i watch it. Pacino eats it up!

"And while you're jumpin' from one foot to the next, what is he doing? He's laughin' His sick, fuckin' ass off! He's a tight-ass! He's a SADIST!"

anyway, here are some other ham jobs that i can't get enough of.

Anthony Hopkins in "Silence of the Lambs"
Geoffrey Rush in "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl"
Daniel Day-Lewis in "There Will be Blood"

edit: just remembered Willem Dafoe in "Spider-Man" and "Shadow of the Vampire"

Absolutely. I found that his Donald Wolfit turn towards the end completely changed the impact the movie had on me. And not for the better.

But I love Alec Baldwin's rant in Glengarry Glen Ross. And the other actors are queuing up to give it 110% in that too.

Great yelling, sure, but Pacino was still unable to match the wallpaper mastication he'd already achieved in SCARFACE.

Yes, but is there a movie in which Pacino underacts? If there were a lifetime achievement award for unrelenting manducation he'd be a shoo-in.

Would that be when he leaves the gun or when he takes the cannoli?

Well, OK, I was exaggerating. In his earlier performances he's often quite subdued. But it's been a while since any carpet in his vicinity was safe. Occupational hazard of Hollywood stardom, I think. As actors become stars their mannerisms become amplified to the point of self-parody, & instead of playing characters Al plays Al, Jack plays Jack, Bob plays Bob, Dustin plays Dustin, & so on. (One definition of a star: someone famous enough to have lost their surname.)

And in Leon
and True Romance (along with Walken who chews in Things to do in Denver...

And what about Ben Kingsley in Sexy Beast?

The winner has got to be John Holmes in Dirty Bongos - you hardly even notice the women...

I came across another film that I have always liked, although I really can't explain why. The film is nothing spectacular, it had problems in deciding whether it was comedy or drama, and was predictable and annoying. But I like it.

The film is The January Man, with Kevin Kline and Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio. It features Alan Rickman in what I think is one of his first film roles, just after Die Hard. The scene-chewer in this film? Oh my GOD! Rod Steiger. I truly thought the man would have a stroke in every scene!! Screaming, yelling, ranting and raving. It actually was quite fun to watch.
