If you're in the UK and read this today before the shops shut, you might be interested in getting hold of a copy of todays "Observer" for the DVD it has with it. I wouldn't normally recommend this sort of thing, but this one is a bit different. It has 5 short films by 5 different, now well known and influential, directors from the beginning of their careers. The films in question are:

Amelia and the Angel - Ken Russell, 1957

Boy and Bicycle - Ridley Scott, 1965

The Burning - Stephen Frears, 1968

I'm British But... - Gurinder Chadha, 1989

Where's the Money, Ronnie? - Shane Meadows, 1996

Alternatively The Telegraph was giving away "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance". My Mum bought it, and good job too because last time I tried to watch it I fell asleep...

Sounds very interesting. Sorry I'm missing out on it.
