It is with great sadness that I report the death of one of American's greatest playwrights Lanford Wilson.

He was responsible for my entry into the off-off-Broadway scene when he cast and directed me in the premiere of The Rimers of Eldritch at the La MaMa Theatre in 1966. It was a time of such promise.

Lanford was one whose whole life fulfilled that promise.

He'd been ill for some time with emphysema. The end may be expected, but you're never truly prepared when it comes.

He's a star in the Lemon Sky. His work will live on.

Here's the link to my obit for Lance in The Guardian

A beautiful tribute to a very talented playwright.

(We did a production of "Rimers" when I was in High School, and I was hoping to get the part of Eva - but didn't.)
