Yikes! I've just realized something about Saw III [that seminal s3quel ... NOT!]
It's like this -- and here I'm going to describe a scene-let which I assure you is NOT a spoiler:
Serrated John the sawmaniac has a memory in which he and a long-ago true love canoodle in filmy romantic lyricism. The scene is risible considering the bloody circs.
But I've been chomping my way through one of Rovark's loverly accs and was reminded that there's an exact same scene in Steve Carver's factually inaccurate bio-pic of Al Capone.
So whaddya bet Saw 123 director Darren Lynn Bousman SawSawSaw Capone and either presented a deliberate homage to a fellow turkey, or subconsciously revealed the level of his originality.
So, my question is: if you're gonna steal, how come you don't steal from the best !!!
Mozart - oh, yeah. I always want to know why those considerate peeps   who blast out music so generously to an unsuspecting populace - from their cars, their beach blankets, their open windows -- how come they never play Mozart!!!!

I have JUST had Mozart's Requiem in D Minor on in the Car - incredibly moving music especially DIES IRAE and LAUDETE DOMINUM .
Many Film Composers have borrowed from the classics - Just to take Mozart's Requiem - with it's thunderous choral arrangements it's clear that Hans Zimmer ( among many others ) has listened and paid homage ( he he ) .Not surprising really , Mozart ( like all Good classical music ) conjures pictures. He wrote film music a long time before films!
Apparently a stranger turned up and commissioned a Requiem for an anonymous Benefactor ( who turned out to be a Nobleman who commissioned pieces and then claimed he had written them ! ) Mozart was a little suspicious but needed the money. Shortly after he became ill and suspected he had been poisoned . After his Death the work was completed by a much less talented composer based on what Mozart had written .
DIES IRAE , is used for the short film on the Incredibles DVD extras ( with the Baby on fire! )
BTW - To each their own but I've heard four versions and I have to say the VON KARAJAN version is easily the worst. The all out Teutonic approach might work for Beethoven but Mozart requires a little more finesse ( Oh Heck , I sound like Gary Oldman in Leon now!  ) |

I don't think it's much of a topic because Lucas openly talks about showing the ILM people old WWII dogfight movies to inspire them. |

Perhaps the ultimate Jesus story variant is The Day The Earth Stood Still, where an alien arrives to save the planet, calls himself "Carpenter" - geddit? - tells people to get on with one another, gets shot and apparently killed for his trouble and then rises from the dead.

Filmmaking IS stealing.
Heres a few examples which spring to mind:
Sea Of Love has exactly the same ending as Tootsie.
Paris, Texas has two brothers trying to catch a plane. The normal brother needs to get them back to his home quickly, but the other brother, who is behaving abnormally, refuses to fly, so they have to drive to West Coast instead. Rain Man does exactly the same thing.
In The Music Box L&H have to get a piano up a long flight of steps. Naturally things go wrong and it falls down. Ice Cold In Alex uses the same idea, except dramatically rather than comedically as we watch them try to get an ambulance up a steep sand dune. Naturally, it isn't achieved without it rolling down the hill first.
