This is England
The film is dedicated at the end in memory of a woman in her forties with the same surname as the actor playing Shaun. Does anyone know what relation she was to him? |

I have just watched This is England, what a fantastic and moving film. I was worried that it would glory the life of skins and up the national front (for those who know not the national front are a bunch of bigoted racism scumbags who believe in white supremcy).
The movie shows the development of Shaun though a hard time in his life, it is well worth a watch just accept that the views of Combo are very much in the minority in Britain.
I really enjoyed the film and will happily watch it again, a very powerful and thought provoking film.

No probs. Just happened to hear a radio interview with Meadows wherein he related the story, so did a quick google to see if it appeared ... et voila!

The following is from You Magazine:
His problems at home can be traced to his dysfunctional family background.
Because of his mother's cancer, which no one knew about until the day she died, she became too frail to instil any discipline into Tommo's life and he often had to fend for himself.
He began living on junk food and too much cola, making him hyperactive and hard to handle at school.
The film is dedicated to the memory of Sharon, who died of lung cancer on 29 December 2005, two months after the film finished shooting.
Sharon and Rob split up in 1993 when Tommo, the youngest of their four sons, was only one.
Sharon reverted to her maiden name of Turgoose and brought up all four children herself for six years, until 1999, when the two middle boys - Matthew, now 19, and Jamie, now 18 - went to live with Rob.
Meanwhile, Tommo and his eldest brother Karl, now 21, continued to live with Sharon. 'I wasn't able to see Tommo and Karl as much as I wanted to because I was working away from home for a lot of years,' explains Rob, whose job in oil refineries took him all over the world.
Rob, 45, recalls how his ex-wife Sharon had been ill for a number of years with 'sciatica and other problems', although no one suspected it was anything serious.
As the youngest, Tommo was particularly close to his mother, and despite her increasing fragility, Sharon was so proud of her son's movie break that she came down to the set for a while to watch him filming his scenes.
Mark recalls: 'I remember saying, "Let's get her a doctor," because she looked really poorly, but she wouldn't agree.
She was quite withdrawn and must have been in a lot of pain at the time.'
