It was actually on BBC Radio4's That Mitchell and Webb sound which later transferred to television that David Mitchell and Robert Webb developed their sparring personae - always at odds about every conceivable aspect of life. Mitchell oozes the aura of the arrogant pratt, convinced his view of the world is superior to Webb's less bombastic though slightly more nerdy personality. The dynamic works well with their own material, and in the currently ubiquitous series of ads for the Apple Mac in which Mitchell plays PC and Webb is the quietly triumphant Mac.

But whoever thought that just plonking a grown-up feature film camera in front of them and their comedy chums [all of whom are wasted in this] would result in a big-screen version of that rapport, made mistake number one. To choose a script that has all the charm and originality of mud was mistake number two. And then to hand it all over to a director whose whose most innovative camera move is the cut, well that was mistake number three. And, in the magician business, three strikes and you're out. What? That's the baseball business? Yeah, and that's about as close to magic, or movies, as this one is ever gonna get. It's awful!
