Wanna give us a hint as to what movie you're talking about? Better yet, how about a link to its IMDb page.
Paradise Lost
The movie you've linked to doesn't seem to have been made yet.
Oops, sorry. I added that film on Saturday - as it had the correct name and year I did not look at the page further.
I back up your request for people to add the link when they start threads about specific films here. |

MEA CULPA!! Sorry, CL and Sen ... Here's the correct link. [I saw Sal's link and, unlike you, assumed it was correct.]
The film was recently released here in the UK as Paradise Lost, though in the US as Turistas. I notice benj, as per, is using the US title.
No worries. Yep, since the creation of the 'auto-add-movie-to-fwfr' feature, they're always added under the IMDb title, until benj changes it (if he wants to change it).
I learned a fair while ago that reading movie reviews for me is a waste of time (unless they're 4 words or less and funny). All I was interested in was the IMDb score, which is 4.1 so I'll avoid it entirely. There are cheaper/quicker ways of ogling scantily-clad chicks, although some of them look quite tasty! |

BB, as Chocky mentioned, if it's worth starting a thread to talk about a movie, then surely it's worth putting a link in your thread so that I don't have to fart around trying to find what movie I think you might be talking about? There are 17 movies entitled Paradise Lost. My guess is you're talking about Turistas, right?

Posted - 06/04/2007 : 09:31:34 Blood Diamond dealt with the largely ignored international trade in African diamonds fuelled by the dehumanization of miners. That it chose to pursue a more conventional genre tale against that backdrop contributed to its failure as a film of ideas. But at least it attempted to engage with some of the serious issues, instead of merely using them as plot points.
If only John Stockwell's Paradise Lost [aka Turistas] had even a passing acquaintance with the concept of integrity, this could have turned the contemporary horror-chase genre on its head and, who knows, even produced a classic. -- because the underlying socio-political bedrock of the plot raises important questions in an era of global threats and international usury. Hell, if it wanted to it could expand its flirtation with the very notions of what's to be sacrificed in a world that values trade above humanity.
So, like John Milton's epic poem of the same name, the film looks behind some apparent Paradise and finds a very different reality indeed. What makes Stockwell's film a travelogue of pretension is that every single ideological premise is sprinkled over a mindless tale of heightened tension resolving itself in gore. Logic is sacrificed to expediency, character motivation is tacked on like a bad fashion designer's last-minute addition of an inappropriate accessory brooch. Above all, the script is as undirected as the endless miles of jungle which the poor cast had to negotiate.
It all starts off promisingly enough with a Brazilian jungle set-up, stranding a group of fit young tourists in the middle of nowhere when their bus encounters some "road trouble." Instead of waiting for Manana Transport, they opt for la dolce vita on the beach, as close to Paradise as you'd want in the circs. Clear blue water, powder soft sand, perfect weather, cheap beer and music - hola!
But, from deep in the jungle, trouble stalks them via a local network of evil, and that's where both the plot and the film itself go badly wrong. Drugs. Guns. Friends who turn out to be enemies. Enemies who become friends. Lots of trekking. And running away. And swimming away. And getting caught. And escaping. And - briefly - lots of gory stuff - hemophobes look away!!
You can't really say the acting's bad because no one is asked to do anything creative except try not to giggle at the ridiculous dialogue, and to march through jungle terrain in a minimum of clothing. So, snake bites no problem, then? Come to think of it, it ain't long before you're longing for a giant anaconda to gobble up the lot!

Paradise Lost
The main premise for this film seems to have attractive people semi-naked for most of it. However/therefore, I quite enjoyed it. People should not expect anything too complex/subtle! There are also some quite stupid plot holes - e.g. not a huge spoiler, but to be on the safe side: they all get drugged at night, but instead of getting carried off there and then, most of them are left so that an elaborate ploy is needed to catch them again.
