Posted - 06/15/2007 : 17:02:23 In Mr. Brooks, Kevin Coster plays a serial killer as an otherwise nice guy in the mold of Ted Bundy or John Wayne Gacy. It's also a buddy film with William Hurt as his alter ego and Dane Cook as his disciple. You'd think his wife, Marg Helgenberger of CSI fame, would figure out that something is going on. Costner's low key style is perfect for this role. He goes to AA meetings to control his urge to kill. ("Hello my name is Earl and I am an addict..."). Left this film with an uneasy feeling.

Posted - 06/16/2007 : 16:25:21 Costner is a nice guy but for his huge character flaw. There may be too many subplots in this one but overall a good film. A serial killer protagonist who regrets killing is an intersting premise. If you have someone like William Hurt whispering in your ear, you have a real problem. It's a disturbing flick. One could go fishing with Brooks and end up sleeping with the fishes... |

Posted - 06/16/2007 : 08:59:36 I'm usually mixed about seeing Costner films, but really have always liked them. (Yes, all of them.) I think that's because fundamentally, Costner is just likeable. However, I will wait for it to come out on DVD, as I do most of the time. |
