As detailed on another thread , a hilarious 1960's film on the Dirty Dozen SE had me thinking.

What about a film dramatisation of the making of this seminal war film. It has all the ingredients of drama - the mercurial director ( Aldrich ), the hard living actor ( Marvin ), the singer trying out Hollywood ( Lopez ), the rookie ( Sutherland ), another tough guy actor ( Bronson ), the "method" actor ( Cassavetes )

Of course the casting of Cassavetes is obvious - John Turturro was made for this role!

So ,as a little light relief how about some suggestions for casting and directing ( Michael Bay need not apply )

Key Roles
Robert Aldrich
Lee Marvin
Richard Jaeckel
Charles Bronson
Jim Brown
George Kennedy
Ernest Borgnine
Trini Lopez
Donald Sutherland ( Kiefer? he he )
Telly Savalas
Clint Walker

We don't have many Lee Marvins nowadays. Bruce Willis might work, even though he doesn't much look Lee Marvin. Or he might make a good Telly Savalas.

I suppose that generation was actually in WW2. Lee Marvin , Charles Bronson and Ernest Borgnine all were in the forces in WW2
