Some of you may already know about THIS SITE, but in case you don't, it's a wonderful place to watch some of those very early silent classics we've all read about.

I just watched the 11 minute Georges M�li�s 1902 version of A Trip to the Moon. It was wonderful not only to see the stuff I've been reading about for decades, but also some of the stuff that I didn't know about. Like when the Astronomers land on the moon and meet the moon creatures, I can't remember reading anything about how the earthling's umbrella turns into a giant moon mushroom.

The site is part of an ongoing global archive project in many disciplines, music, photos, etc ... but the link above takes you to the film bit, where you can search for stuff by keywords.

Lovely stuff!

Yes indeed, great catch! Do you mean you'd never seen Melies' moon trip before? I hope you enjoyed it...it was screened on my very first day in Movie History class mumbledy-mumble years ago [I was introduced to LA JETEE on a TV monitor in TV Production class later that same day...you can bet I was flick-stoned by the time I got home that night].
