i watched the animated, direct-to-DVD "Superman: Doomsday" tonight with a friend of mine and liked it a lot. it was rated pg-13 and featured some serious violence, mild cursing and some romantic situations. but this is where my movie/comic geekness really shines. anybody remember when Kevin Smith had done a Superman script? they ended up not using Smith's version, but the story goes that a producer insisted to Kevin that Superman fight a giant spider. btw, the same producer worked on "Wild, Wild West" and got his giant spider. well, in "Superman: Doomsday," Supes fights Toyman, who is riding in a giant, mechanical spider. of course, Superman wins, and the spider crashes to the ground, right in front of an overweight guy with a dark beard, who is credited as "Grumpy Man." in the same voice as Silent Bob, Grumpy Man says: "Like we really needed him to bust up a mechanical spider. Lame!" my friend did not get why that was so hilarious to me. how nerdy must i have sounded explaining it?
