I thought I would move this discussion here to make it more easily accessed. Mr. Salopian has made a comment which he might also wish to transport.

Now I've seen PLANET TERROR, and as underwhelmed as I was with QT's contribution -- I thought about :30 to :40 of its 2:00 was worthwhile, particularly the chase at the end -- this one's far worse. It is, quite simply, made for FANGORIA fans. If an exploding head makes you laugh, as it's supposed to in this flick, more than once, then be my guest. Shoot shoot shoot, zombies go boom boom boom, over and over and over again. Rose's machine-gun leg is cute for about :05, and there's one very good planted sight gag among her carnage.

The concept of both GRINDHOUSE features was intriguing. The execution just wasn't there [car chase notwithstanding]. The funniest thing about the whole picture was the phony logo: "R.I.P., Rodriguez International Pictures." I loved it, and settled back for an expected mind-blowing that never came about -- even though the phony trailer for "MACHETE," which I applaud, was full of promise. Maybe this kind of idea simply works best as an idea; i.e., as a trailer.

You say that like it's a bad thing.

This movie is great. Great action sequences, it really understands what the zombie movie is about.

Not a bad thing, just not my cuppa. The zombies blow up again and again and again and again...

I just wish I'd had the opportunity to see them as the Grindhouse experience.
Having seen both as seperate entities, I was left with the impression that with some decent editing (and about 20 to 30 minutes out of each film), we'd of had a pretty damn good double bill. 'course, it's then down to what 20 minutes you take out....

Looking forward to "Machete" btw, which I gather is now in production. Man am I a glutton for punishment.

I didn't think too much of it either, although I enjoyed Naveen Andrews speaking in a cut-glass accent. The performances were fine, but there just wasn't a lot for them to work with.
