Posted - 03/05/2008 : 16:01:27 While recently researching my new Boop-Oop-a-doop Accolade, I found a website with several embedded YouTube repros of these delightful Max Fleischer creations, included Dizzy Dishes [1930], Betty's very first appearance when she was originally designed as a dog!
It's mostly about her doggy boyfriend, waiter Bimbo, but it's very interesting for some ideas from which you can easily trace much later snippets in, for example, Nick Park's The Wrong Trousers.

Posted - 03/05/2008 : 22:24:22 A dear friend gave me a DVD of early Fleischer-studio Popeye cartoons last Xmas, and how wonderful they are to watch, even today. These are the ones where all the characters look like they're constantly hyperventilating. Those guys, who did Boop too, were true animation pioneers. |
