It's taken me five years to see this Ridley Scott Crusade-fest. Can't explain my own ennui when it was first presented, but I think a lot of people must have shared it, because it didn't do well, which made my own mental file-cabinet snap shut, even though I admire the director's work. "Tech creds" are superb, but what sets this apart is as even-handed a story as a Westerner can tell about the millennia-old struggle for a city which is holy to three different major global faiths. You will have to suffer through some brutal 12th-century battle scenes, if that kind of stuff bothers you, but you wind up having beheld noble people on both sides [along with the inevitable warmongers, which also exist Over There]. Jews are only noted in a throwaway line, but their religious "dog in this hunt" is at least not overlooked. It takes three very quick hours to watch this thing. I recommend it highly.
