Posted - 07/04/2010 : 21:21:27 I'm pretty freakin confused. So Sokka and Princess Yue had a thing going on? So? But wasn't he the ineffectual hunter, loved but lame brother of waterbending Katara (so why would the Northern Tribe of Waterbenders entrust her safety to him)? "I had a feeling you'd volunteer." Huh? "Do you have a spiritual place where I can meditate?" Wha? And when the Northern Tribe place their archers on the gate, as the Fire Nation boats approach, why does Master Pakku start belting out the long question from the Who's "Who Are You?" but then not finish the song? "Whooooooooooooooooooooooo ...!" (That part's a joke, but if you're my age, and you see the movie, you'll know exactly what I'm talking about.)
I wanted to like this film, and I think I have to go back and watch about three years of the animated series to understand it better. I want to be able to lash out at it for compressing a bunch of stuff together (like David Lynch did with three vomues of the Dune book series ... grrrrr), but I don't have the background (and maybe it just begins all turbid and stuff). I gotta see it again before I really pan it. But the good part: bought tickets to the non-3D version and snuck into the 3D version without having to pay that extra charge. Sweet! |
