I'm slightly surprised that nobody has commented on this yet. We had a family trip last night to watch this.
The verdict from myself and Mrs C was "Yeah, well, it was OK". Babybear enjoyed herself. It's not a patch on the original movies - it seems to have lost a lot of the drive and vigour (and fun) of the first one or two episodes.
Johnny Depp and Geoffrey Rush are the only remaining members of the original cast, and it shows. Johnny Depp looks like he's going through the motions, Geoffrey Rush suitably piratical, and Penelope Cruz and the mermaids look nice. There's too many swordfights and chases in the first 20 minutes, and after that it sinks into a long chase movie with more swordfights and the light relief of the Mermaids. Ian McShane does a reasonable turn as Blackbeard, but I can't help thinking that it's all a bit "too little too late". Lets hope that there isn't a POTC5.
We watched this in 2D and I'm glad we did. I don't think 3D would have added anything, and the night sequences would have been way too dark.
Next up for us: X-Men - First Class, Harry Potter 7 part 2, and Kung Fu Panda 2. Having read MguyX's review of the X-Men movie, I'm really looking forward to it.

Yeah, I guess. But the romance is a bit cheesy. Or should that be fishy!
I was hoping that Fountain of Yoff meant we were going to get to see Depp regress back to infancy. Baby pirate with kohl around his eyes and that beaded beard and a teeny-tiny tricorner hat.
