Possible Spoilers

Red White & Blue played at SXSW to some good reviews. It was shot with a Red One camera and a budget of $1M. It's streaming on Netflix.

Though Red White and Blue's brutality is closer to that of Kill Bill or Goodfellas, it is a bit reminiscent of Barton Fink. "Nate" (Noah Taylor) is a character who we're initially tempted to ignore. This is partly because the story initially centers around his naughty neighbor Erica (Amanda Fuller) whose moral compass was stolen at a young age.

We get a growing sense, though, that Nate also has some stories he could tell you. That is (to borrow the cliche) he could tell you, but he'd have to kill you.

That is to say, instead of explaining himself, Nate takes action. Once this part of the film is in progress, Nate rises out of any social awkwardness and comfortably takes up his role as an avenging angel. It doesn't matter that there are varying levels of guilt and complicity in the crime that set Nate on the warpath... if you're anywhere near that path, you in for a very unhappy ending.
