I have noticed that quite a few of the Films from the 1900's have titles that are both LONG and LITERAL - ie if its a film about Denver Shoe Salesmen chasing a runaway Buggy with a Girl with Red Hair in, the title will be...well you get the point.
Anyway I thought it might be fun to make up some TOCLAL Movie Titles ( Turn of Century Long amd Literal )Please join in!
Heres a real Doozer from 1902 from the Studio of Hiram H Schwalbach.
"Mayor Robinson takes a morning constitutional with his Wife along Ocean Street , while several muscular men with Fuller-Brush Mustaches attempt to install a Teeter-Totter in McKenzie State Park" |

You may not have heard if this 1907 Show Stopper by Tyrell Wishburn but the makers of the " Italian Job " ( Marky Mark Version )certainly have!

It may have broken all Box Office Records in Rapid City but today this 1912 two reeler from August Flank is mainly remembered for inspiring "CATCH 22"

Johnny Depp makes reference to older inspiration than Keith Richard! Notably the 1902 Box Office Avoider , Kurt Malmstein's " The Gay Piratical Captain finds all manner of adventure on the Spanish Main while a stripling Cobbler makes woo with a fair maiden of inconsequential decolletage" |

Who would have thought that the Star Wars saga borrowed some if it's inspiration from Hugo Wankel's 1906 Romp " A fanciful Tale that relates the travails of a callow farmhand swept into the Heavens by a passing comet who encounters all manner of mechanistic engines of war and therein discovers distressing revalations regarding his lineage." |

Should we call this "Umpteen Word Film Review" ("UWFR")?
Low-level Philly mob button man occasionally wastes time boxing against sucky opponents, then gets chance to fight a guy who doesn't suck so much.
Billionaire takes chances, gets into movies, dates starlets, goes crazy, grows hair and fingernails, collects piss in milk bottles.
Young man runs hotel, hears dead mommy's voice, cross-dresses and kills chick after peeping into shower.

Actually , Basselope , You may have hit on the way to revive this thread.ie " x is the remake of a 1900's film " . If only i could rename the Header.
ie "Mission Impossible " becomes a remake of Hubert Miffley's 1904 classic " Short Fellow with handsome visage engages in all manner of subterfuge involving incredible feats of gymnastics and prestigitation to the alarm and confusion of his cowardly and morally bankrupt foes" |

I tried getting this started once. It was to explain the title of a movie to a child. It stared to get some buzz. But then just died off.
