Posted - 02/12/2007 : 17:54:52 So today I've been working on submitting some films to be added for one of my accolades, without reviews since I've been having some trouble coming with reviews for these films.
The problems started as I was trying to add Floating Clouds. I put 'Please add' in the review box, and it was immediately declined for being similar to another review.
I tried it again, with the same result, and indeed it was declined again (I deleted the first attempt). So then I tried 'Please add this' which went through all right.
But wait, it gets stranger.
Next up was Salvatore Giuliano. Just to cover my bases, I first tried 'Please add' which was promptly declined. So I reverted to 'Please add this.' Then the request disappeared. It wasn't in my decline pile or the pending pile. It had simply disappeared.
So I tried 'Please add this movie,' and that worked.
Now, I can come up with variations on 'Please add' all day long, but seriously, wtf is going one here?

Hmm. That's a nifty idea. Usually I actually submit a review and put the link in the comments box, but this time I was having trouble coming up with reviews. |

Posted - 02/13/2007 : 12:54:29 I've always put the I.M.D.B. link in the body of the null review to get around that problem and that system has worked fine. I am pretty sure that this occurs only when oneself has submitted identical reviews for different films, not different people for different films. (Different people for the same film would work similarly, but is unlikely in these circumstances.) (This presumably just applies to pending reviews, which is how Whipper could get away with his pair, unless he submitted the second one without a full stop and that differentiated them as far as the system was concerned.) I am similarly pretty sure that this was put in to stop people using the same idea as Conan's one-off set of Police Academy reviews. Benj, have you just fixed what happened with his "Please add this", i.e. is what I have just outlined still automatically disallowed?
On this sort of matter, I have also at least once had a null review left pending, but with the year added, once the film was added. It made no difference to me, but it seemed an odd glitch. |

CL, have you ever noticed that if you've added a film so that the FWFR remains in your pending list with Un-added in the 'year' column, that if the film is then added, your pending list doesn't change?
I've PM'd benj about this to see if there's a way to automatically replace the 'unadded' label with the year once the film's been added to the FWFR database. Otherwise, I've found in the past that my FWFR isn't getting picked up because I guess the MERPs are still waiting for benj to add the film. Since we're always somewhat behind in approvals it's very time-consuming for us to check the New Films every day and cross-check them with our pending list.
Anyway -- has anyone else noticed this?
In truth, no, I haven't noticed this at all lately - but this did happen a while back once or twice. Still, I recently added a whole slew of films for my "Best of Israel's Films" accolade just the way I said above - by submitting a review and then adding to the comments the URL from IMDb. A few of the movies were added but the reviews didn't get accepted and remained in my pending file. From that point, the pending file reviews were no longer listed as "unadded".
Sorry!

Posted - 02/12/2007 : 22:49:11 Sounds like others have added films with 'please add' and cause they are unadded films the system takes it as a dupe for unadded films.
You could try using the link to IMDB.
