Okay I have created the accolade Josh the cat's documentary dilemma my issue is, the accolade has now reached 1000 films, should I keep adding the documentaries now 1008 in the database or should I call it quits at a round 1k?

Your opinions please

I might have been watching cheerleader practice outside the window that day in Greek theatre class, but I got the gist of it, goddammit!

My honest opinion is that I don't like accolades that big, period, unless there's a good reason for it. It's not so much a question of attainability as much as it is a lack of legitimacy to the accolade. I know this topic has been covered before, but just being documentaries doesn't seem like a good reason to put all those films in an accolade. I can see an accolade of your favorite documentaries or of the best documentaries of all time (and that might even be a substantial list), but I don't really see the point of something that automatically adds every film from a genre, which is about as interesting as an accolade of every film from a given year or every film that uses subtitles. Shouldn't there be a little more imagination than that behind an accolade?

How about an accolade of every Academy Award for Documentary Feature winner? To keep it extremely challenging, you could include every nominee.

As you may remember, after several months of effort, I was only one film away from achieving your documentary accolade when you suddenly added 80+ more. You broke my heart, Fredo. Yet I say, keep 'em coming.

...

But if I do ever manage to hoist the Docu Dilemma trophy, even for one single day, I expect some frickin heavy-duty hosannahs...

I hope you know that I was unaware that you were 1 chasing JTCDD and 2 were merely just 1 film away.

I know that. I told you after the fact. But here's what you don't know: the very next day after you raised the bar, I got that last film! I felt like Charlie Brown after a try at Lucy's football. AAAAUGH!

But fear not. I'll get back in the hunt soon. It's just harder these days to hold on to the ones you already have, ever since benj created the auto-adding feature.

If you are happy I will keep updating this so it remains as complete as possible.

I will vote with gusto (enthusiasm) if you ever manage to get this one.

I don't know if this helps, but: My Sibling Amity: Not For The Fainthearted

accolade of 1345 films [no achievers - yet!] which features actors who are siblings of other actors, seemed like a daunting challenge that only another acc-freak like me might attempt.

SO

I split it up. It took weeks to do, but I divided into chronological periods, and then I posted each one as Sibling Amity: Parts I-XIV

Most of them now contain a perfectly achievable number of films, so if anyone is interested, they can work their way through collecting 14 trophies, with the bonus at the end, because they'll also get the Big Daddy trophy. At least they have a choice.

I reckon that docos would just as easily fit into decades.

Just a thought!

I don't mind long accolades that have an actual filmic reason for existing, as yours does. [I assiduously shun the cotton-candy ones that simply depend upon random letters appearing in a film's title. In the enduring words of Sophocles, who the fuck cares?]

After a months-long breather chasing another long one which has a filmic reason for existing, I say, let the docu continue to exist. I'll watch for new films and try to get close again. But if I do ever manage to hoist the Docu Dilemma trophy, even for one single day, I expect some frickin heavy-duty hosannahs...

Well it's not the biggest one out there. I don't mind big accolades, however, I won't be going for this one.

I think the issue is attainability: how attainable is it? I see nothing wrong with JTC's 1000 documentary dilemma.
