I just read in The Wall Street Journal that starting this fall, Google and Microsoft were teaming up to offer some cloud-computing based platform wherein a bunch of historically free services were going to be hosted in some "for pay" format. There was a list of services (including Facebook, MySpace, Wikipedia) and to my great surprise THE FOUR WORD FILM REVIEW!

Quote:
"This little film-based web pasttime is the brainchild of Benjamin Clews (known as "benj" to site participants, who are often referred to as "Fwiffers"). "I love these guys, but in the present economy, I've got to start thinking about my eventual retirement too. I mean, I'm not going to be a pig about it, but it's time somebody paid a little." Said Clews.

"The plan is to charge a royalty per review. Each review will cost a set fee to post. Some guys have already posted thousands of reviews, so at half an euro per post, I've got a built in money-maker here.

"It's also going to be like a click-based system, where the review writer will get paid per click each time a review gets viewed. The only catch is that the reviewer will have to bill the viewer thorough the new Google Cloud-Cost-Catcher system. And each time a viewer pays, I get a hefty little chunk of that too. Not bad!"
I'm simply stunned. I wish I didn't have to find out this way.

Even if this were true, stopping or slowing down would be hard. Such is the nature of addiction.

This is going to hit randall and AC in the pocketbook pretty hard (since I just noticed the delete and disown options are now gone).

I guess I'm going to have to try REALLY hard to post only good reviews from now on.

Um, not that I'm complaining, but a little warning might have been nice.
