This has probably been brought up before but in your own opinions what is the difference between smitheeing a review and just deleting if i don't want it as part of my review stockpile?

I'm looking for Philosphy here guys and girls (and not one disappears and the other becomes part of Alan Smithee the dud reviewer but stays on the site).

Every once in a while, I'll find an oldie of mine that just doesn't exhibit any savoir faire. I'll always give it to Smithee, because I love the bloke, and want to see him advance here on fwfr.

the only review i've smitheed was one that i lifted directly from another source. i thought it was witty and met the requirements for a fwfr. i watched the fwfr page for "Larry The Cable Guy: Health Inspector" for about a month to see if anyone else would submit it.
when it never showed up, i submitted and disowned upon approval:

"Git-r-dumb."

at the time i didn't even know about Alan Smithee, and questioned when this dude got credit for my stolen review. i thought it would go to anonymous. i had no plan to keep it when i submitted it.

I'm not planning to. If I had one that shouldn't have been approved, then I'd delete it, but AFAIK, none of mine fit the bill. What seemed like a good idea for a review at the time isn't necessarily so in retrospect, but I'll stand behind the reviews I wrote, good, bad, or ugly; so it's unlikely I'll disown any in the foreseeable future.

Hello and welcome!

Actually, I thought your reviews for Heidi Fleiss: Hollywood Madam and Amadeus were better. Still, I liked your Cujo review and just voted for it.

But I wouldn't get rid of any of your reviews if I were you. You're still new here and you can use all the approvals you can get (and you've got some good ones). I haven't Smithee'd any myself, although I have deleted some that I couldn't get votes for.

(Come and join some of the other games here. Its fun!)

My "Death becomes cur" review (for Cujo) is a review that I didn't think was particularly strong when I came up with it (in fact, I almost didn't submit it, but in retrospect, I'm glad I did), but its got the highest vote total of any of mine. So far, it's the only review of mine that someone has specifically mentioned enjoying, and that's happened more than once.

If I were to do some spring cleaning, that one would make the list of what, to me, are weaker/boring reviews. But it would make a lot more sense to disown it rather than delete it, since (1) there's no reason (that I know of) why it shoudn't have been approved, and (2) I know for a fact that other people like it, so why ruin that for them? (And no, I'm not planning to disown or delete it.)

Can you post me a link to this? I am about to do a quality check-up on my reviews and if these are his intentions, then I want to honor them.
I don't think you need to worry about it. The kind of stuff that doesn't benefit the site is of the "Ship sinks, Leo dies", or "Fonda's jury acquits suspect" variety. Anything with some kind of cleverness is welcome on the site, and I'm sure your reviews are just fine.

My, don't the years pass quickly?! Don't worry, most people don't use theirs. I hope you enjoyed it at least.

Yes. And I will never use my degree. (Hopefully!) I'm moving cities in a month. Most likely New York.

Hhmmm, I can't really. I cannot think of specific contexts, but I've noticed him doing it. It has not been him saying that there shouldn't be boring reviews here, but more like him alluding to quality being preferable. At any rate, I strongly doubt that he objects to boring reviews being culled.

Thank you. we'll see how long it lasts. I've been really busy travelling the road with comedy and trivia hosting (full time entertainer for over 3months now!).

But... in the case of boring reviews, very little time will have been needed to approve them. Benj has also made several references in recent times to wanting quality in the site content.

By the way, welcome back Mr Stupid!

Ah I knew there was a reason I asked this question....

....the quandary rears it head.

Anyway, I was trying to be objective, but I hate reviews being disowned. I'd always delete them. If you don't feel they benefit your pages, they don't benefit the site.

I'm with you on this way of thinking.

Well, anything can slip through, especially if submitted before the film is out.
