So as not to sully the beauty of our consistent thread titles, I thought this might be a good placve to hold a discussion regarding the future of the AV contest and its administration.
The Venerable Cheese Ed has contributed countless hours of service as the Avatyrant for lo these many years, shouldering as well the cost of maintaining the fwiffer.com domain and what formerly was the repository of our best work. I have offered several times to pay for the maintenance, but Sir Lancelot keeps refusing me.
I love Ed for his work and the dedication he has shown to the AV contest, churning out puns from sources whence one never knew they could even be churned. ("Whence?" *wince*) Alas, our dearest Ch'Ed has new responsibilities that likely call upon the faithful to step up and provide the support that we have long since, lo, taken as granted under the reign of the Cheese King himself. Yes, even this reign endures a rain from time to time, perhaps requiring that the reins be passed ... um ... to Claude Raines?
In other words: Ed's got to go out and attend to his real life, and that means we have got to stop burdening him with sole responsibility for our Avatar fetish. So let's figure out a collective solution. One handy solution is to shift responsibilities weekly to the contest winner (which has some drawbacks) and perhaps call on the 2nd and 3rd placers to fill in if the winner fails to act in a timely manner.
Let's hear some suggestions!
P.S. Thanks Ed, for an absolutely fantastic job over, lo, these many years. ("What's with all the 'lo' stuff?" Something something something 'hi' stuff?) |

I concur. And I think the rota approach is a great one. Having been an occasional Cheese-dep - I can confirm the task is a pleasant one and not too onerous if it's shared. Distinction to the Dairy!

Thanks for the kind words folks. I've got plenty of time before the new job starts so we have plenty of time to ponder.
First and foremost, it sounds like the handful of regulars who play would really like to continue to do so. That's good to know. I've put a lot of effort into getting my Avatyrant system into its current state and as a bit of a compulsive control freak I'd actually LIKE to keep running it. Maybe I can think of some ways to further streamline it so it requires even less effort.
If it comes to a point where I actually have to quit, at least the shared Avatyrantry is an option. |
