Am I the only one here who's seen it, or just the only one willing to admit it?

I actually quite enjoyed it. Really. Nobody will be holding their breath when the Oscar nominations come out, of course, but taken for what it is, it's a fun time at the movies.

First of all, these guys did a fairly amazing job of mimicking the mannerisms of the original Stooges. Not only the "bits", but little stuff like simply walking, standing even. All the postures, facial expressions, etc., were spot-on. If they'd missed by even a little it would have been a pale imitation, but they nailed it so fully that it actually comes off as lovingly nostalgic. With the exception of one prominent fart joke, they didn't really try to update the comedic sensibility much either. It's mostly good, clean, silly slapstick, expertly executed. Credit where credit is due.

So okay, it isn't much of a film, plot-wise. But it's just plain funny. I laughed a lot, and I laughed out loud. That's pretty much all I was looking for. And, true to the Farrelly Brothers formula, it got a little sappy at the end. But you know what, I bought the sappiness. They actually managed to earn a little bit of emotional attachment from me. Go figure.

Bottom line, if you're a fan of the Stooges, I think you'll enjoy and appreciate this movie. If you're not, well then, why'd you even open this thread?

Oh. Well... that's the first (and only) good thing I've heard about this movie so far.

You mean your brother the Old Spice guy? Was he the reality show producer? I didn't make the connection!

Chocky, I've heard nothing *but* good things about this flick, including a very kind Manohla Dargis in the Times ["thoroughly enjoyable"]. I'm gonna wait for the DVD, but I await it eagerly.

The trailers included some very Stooge-like mannerisms. I'll probably go with my now 17yo daughter who also enjoys slapstick.

OK, now I've seen it and I join the aye-sayers. Delightful from moment one, as three ten-year-old kids play the Stooges with adult mannerisms. [The young Moe is especially fine..the way he thins his lips in that upside-down-smile tough-guy look is precious.]

The grown-up trio is also just great, and the only real trouble this movie has is that it must recreate the great Stooges sight gags, so you've seen most of 'em before. But I still laughed. Larry David in a nun's habit is a bonus, as is MguyX's brother [he's really good too in a featured supporting part].

It's just a confection, yes, and it won't create any new fans, but for those of us who watched the Stooges as children, it's comfort food. I loved the fake Farrelly brothers "warning" kids against Stooge antics. When I was a lad, every boy I knew watched the Stooges, and nobody imitated the mayhem [even we youngsters could sense that it was Hollywood fakery], only Curly's mannerisms [to the consternation of teachers everywhere].

P.S. Wheelz, you forgot the baby-piss sequence. But otherwise, you're right: no updating.

P.P.S. I almost forgot: when Moe joins the cast of a notorious reality show and gets all Stoogey on the show's real cast, he's only living out a fantasy for all the rest of us!
