Ok, been a-whackin'... thanks to all for return votes!

R o k G o 1 f, or should I say Paddy, you've been whacked. And your rattle and hum reviews should get bonus votes for the day that's in it!

Lemmy, you been whacked, now put a Cork in it.

Josh, BOSH.

Turrell, I think I know that story.. whack.

Silly, Yukon, foxy, you have all been whacked with the green whacking stick. (BTW this is how the snakes were really cleared out of Ireland, don't believe that saint patrick business, a myth created by Bord Filte)

Will check in again tomorrow for those latecomers who are probably (sensibly) in the pub right now..

If you please, good sir.

The pickings may be modest thus far, but hopefully your stick will find a few that are whack-worthy.

Well it would be rude to turn down such a generous gesture!

Please whack away!

I once saw a sign outside a village fete in an Irish town that read:

"St. Patrick's Day Celebratons. Family Discount Ticket (admits 2 adults & 6 children)."

Thanks in advance for Guinness some votes and good luck with the hang-over.

Top o' the mornin' to ya! My father is also a Pdraig and happens to be a native of Galway. Does that get me extra votes?

ME TOO!

By the way - In honor of St. Paddy's Day I made a Luck of the Irish accolade with Irish movies: Leprechaun, Matchmaker, Angela's Ashes, Far and Away, and Boondock Saints. Grab a Guiness and knock yourself out!

By the way times two - I also made chick flick and anti-chick flcik accolades today: The chickeypoo and the chickpoo antidote.About 15 people prequalified for the chickeypoo antidote so congrats! (I think it says something about the male to female ratio on this site - only 1 pre-qualified for the chickeypoo.

Everybody hsve fun tonight, but not too much fun. I'm off to go get my swerve on!

I looked through the films in the accolades, and I've gotta say, I'm pretty bewildered that Romeo + Juliet is a chick flick.

Then again, there are people (like, say, my father) who think a film like A Beautiful Mind is a chick flick, so maybe.

Yeah, irish isn't the easiest language on paper! Names are especially tough: I'm thinking of the likes of aoife, caoimhe, sofra, aisling, deirdre etc.

Short story: I have a friend called Aoife (pronounced Ee-feh), and when we were in school together in France, the french teachers - in all innocence - pronounced her name "Woof".

Sorry I missed this one, Paddy. We had a very busy Friday and I wasn't on the computer the whole day.

Yes, Irish names. There's a new girl in our Paris office. When I saw her name in her email address I knew she was Irish. Her name is Sorcha (pronounced Circa).

I have the same excuse as ChocolateLady. I hope all you Irish and almost/part Irish folks had a good day.

I also have a similar experience with Irish names: I assumed for a long time that a colleague based in our Brussels office called Keesje (pron Kaze-yer) was Dutch...

And I still have difficulty spelling the name that's pronounced Shervorn.

Didn't the Germans have a plan to make their language more phonetic? Any chance of the Irish following suit?

Yeah, that one was on the fence with me. One of my old guy roomates would refuse to watch it - I'm thinking of changing it to Beaches.

The first (Siobhan) is my sister's name, and the second is one of my nicknames.

Bit late getting back to the paddy-whackery! got stuck in the office all weekend, but I think I've hit everyone now: Morekeleb, SOS, Samus and Lyndsey, you've been paddy-whacked! Koli and Choc, I sprinkled a few votes your ways to make up a little for the confusion caused by those Irish names!

Chocolady, Sorcha's irish for Sarah. Think that one's a bit easier to pronounce than Siobhn! (Koli, try that one as 'Shove awn')

And Koli, I don't think the irish language is going to get aaany simpler, we spend twelve years learning it in school, and most of us finish up with only a pretty basic understanding. Think it's more like an eastern european language than anything else.

Hey Sen, am i imagining things or did you just add the fada to your name!? Good to see you've gone for the gaeilge version!

Yep I added it a couple of days ago. I often use it, e.g., email signature etc, but haven't used it at fwfr before.

BTW, I noticed you sloped it to the right, whereas I always sloped it to the left. Did I get it wrong? Or doesn't it matter?

BTW2, I Paddy-whacked yer right back!

Thanks for that, seems there's been plenty of paddy-whackery done this weekend! (proper order for march 17th..)

Re the fada, i had a quick check on wikipedia, and a couple of on-line translators, and all the examples i found slanted to the left, the way you have it. For getting that wrong, t nire orm! (translation: )

Sarah! Well, that makes sense, despite her pronouncing it "SIR-ka".
