I have had a review declined, and I have never done this before but I don't understand why so here we go
MASH - Vietnam medics comical antics.
Okay its not a smashing review but the reason given is
Factually inaccurate review.
Now MASH is set in Vietnam correct? and it's about medics doctors nurses and their comical antics as well as their medical work right?
If I am wrong sorry for bothering you but I honestly don't understand.
I have tried explaining this.

Whenever I get a "Factually Inaccurate" decline, I go through all the words (there won't be more than four  ) and have a good hard look at them, and there will almost always be one assumption I made that was totally wrong. E.g., the Korea/Vietnam thing. Oh well, you know what to do with it now, Josh.  |

You know the Korean war isn't officially over, even now. It's amazing to think there are still some American troops stationed on the 38th Parallel over fifty years on. Probably not the same ones though!
NB: If you haven't seen it, see "Brotherhood" - a great, moving film from Korea about the conflict. |

Easy mistake to make. In fact, Robert Altman deliberately shot the movie to make the audience think of Vietnam. [This war was fiercely raging at the time.] I don't believe there's a Korean reference at all, except for the title cards at the beginning ["I will go to Korea..."]. Maybe when they take Ho-Jon into the draft-board doctor in the city -- it's been a while -- but I don't think even then. |

Sure there is - when they get sent to Seoul (spelling?) to operate on some big-whig officer. There's a line I'll never forget when they show up at the hospital. I think its Sutherland who says "This is the Sky Pilot and I'm the Pro from Dover".

The only thing I'm not sure of is, when Ho-Jon faces the draft board, is that city ever CALLED Seoul, or noted as being in Korea at all? I don't believe it is, and I stand by my statement that this was a deliberate ploy by Altman to make M*A*S*H more immediately relevant to audiences then in the thick of Vietnam. |

I totally agree about Altman's ploy, by the way. But you know, I think I read somewhere that he (or the writers) originally wanted it to be in Vietnam and they moved it (or were forced to move it) to Korea in order to not offend certain parties. I could be mistaken, but it does sound possible.

That can't be possible. "Richard Hooker"'s source novel was always set in Korea. But, as mentioned, Altman got his wish by playing down the Korean angle.
By the time the TV series came out, the US was actually withdrawing from Vietnam, yet emotions were still raw, thus the Korean setting made so much more allegorical sense. But Altman's movie [which I actually prefer to the TV series] was released during the height of the conflict. As I said before, misremembering Altman's Korea for Vietnam is an easy mistake to make... |
