I hate it when I get something declined and someone else gets something similar approved.

Thanks FWFR. Just got 'Death and Texas' approved (with a few votes to).

Thanks also for the suggested movies for 'Hurts when I laugh.' lemmycaution and Falken but I am not familiar enough with these films to get 'IT'. Feel free to submit this review and I wish you the best.

I submitted a review "Snake on a Plane" for Raiders of the Lost Ark. It was approved but to my chagrin and surprise i saw exactly the same review for the same movie by someone else higher up in the rankings and it was getting all the votes. So i just left it awaiting the day that the MERPs or Benj would remove my enrty.

Only last week did I notice that the same review suddenly bore 19 votes and can only presume that mine was first and they had been approved by two different MERPs.

So thank you all for the votes. And hard luck to the person who lost out one one review and 18 votes.

happened to me with what i thought was one of my best reviews ever: 'Broke back mountain-skiing' was rejected for 'The Other Side of the Mountain.' then RokGo1f gets 'Broke neck mountain' approved.

i think RG and i have collided like that a couple of times.

I've had two good ones declined "Cold Mountin" for Nude Ice Skating (then I saw it either there or somewhere else a few months later) and then a review "Gere leads a horticulture" for Pretty Woman. Something similar was later approved. Mine was rejected because "Gere did nothing with plants in the movie" [6]

Tori: I also submitted (and was rejected) on "Gere leads a horticulture", but got "whore-to-culture exhibition" passed.

Dalmac: Sorry. These collisions are not intentional. (I also had "Original 'snake on plane'" accepted for Raiders, but it was booted as substantively duplicate weeks later.)

Hey Tori ... good to see another Dorothy Parker fan onsite. Koli, as ya know, is dotty 'bout Dotty.

Nothing you can do under those circumstances but vote. That's the only classy thing to do, IMHO. It's one of the few times I feel absolutely obligated to vote for a review.

If I write a review that's declined and someone else gets something similar -- or the same -- approved, I vote for that, too. It's better than complaining to benj about it, I think, because hey at least that joke made it to the site SOMEHOW. Having the review approved for someone else sort of "proves" that the original joke was good after all. It doesn't have your NAME on it, that's true, but then again most of us aren't using real names anyway. So what's the difference in the long run? It's not like FWFR is allowing us to "cash in" our reviews for prizes or anything. (But if you were to ever introduce such a scheme, benj, what would 1000 reviews buy me?)

Also, if I see one of my approved reviews is unwittingly similar to a previously-approved review by someone else, I do two things: (1) vote for the older review; and (2) disown my review. So that way Alan Smithee is the hack and not me. ("Hack" in the sense of someone who steals someone else's jokes. I've stolen many, many puns from other sources, especially "Mad" magazine, but I try not to steal from other FWFRers too much. Some of my reviews are intentional homages to other FWFRs I admire. My "Bar belles" for "Coyote Ugly," for instance, is an intentional reference to noncentz's "Tubular belles" for "Blue Crush.")

Just had a flash of inspiration re "Master & Commander - Croweboat", but it was already there with 14 (now 15) votes.

This happens so often to me it's not funny, but when you think about it it's not a big surprise. Many great puns are begging to be used and it's just a question of who gets there first.

There must have been dozens of people who thought of 'Post Apocalypse' and it's variants for "The Postman", and still do on a regular basis, but AC got there first and has the votes to prove it.

A slightly less obvious but good review occurred to me in the last month - 'Douglas romances another Stone' for "Basic Instinct", and there it was verbatim. Joe Blevins I salute you.

The only consolation for not getting there quick enough is when you do.... I love that sensation of checking the page for your brilliant idea... and YES! Noncentz, Foxboy, Randall, AC, Lemmy and Bife haven't thought of it yet!!

Heck, I'm more suprised when a review I come up with hasn't been used already, just goes to show many of us share a similar sense of humor. I just vote for said review and move on.
