Too knackered to contribute meaningfully to the discussion, but I have to say that this is some feat of memory. I could probably tell you how many films I've seen in the past month (if you gave me pen and paper and several minutes), but over a whole lifetime? Not a hope.
I too score every film I've seen. For a short time I gave a middling 3 to any film I reviewed but hadn't seen, but then thought better of it. |

Until reading this thread I didn't rate any of the films but I've now started doing it. I'm not going to go through all of my 1430 movies start to finish. I'll rate them bit by bit, as I review them.
However, I only intend to rate the films for which I can refer to my imdb score. For example, I know I watched the obscure movie Hugo the Hippo when I when was a kid, but couldn't possibly remember it vividly enough to give it meaningful rating today. And that even applies to films I may have watched just a few years ago. I can usually remember more-or-less whether I liked a film or not, but not in enough detail to actually rate it. (Obviously, if I re-watched it I would then rate it.)
Luckily, I still have a lot to go off as I have scored 780 of my films on imdb.

Well it was probably 12 hours ago when I read this thread's updates and then decided to get some rays while they were available  I'm not talking sunbathing, just leaving the Word Laboratory and taking a trip to the surface to see what season it is.  I recall talk of voting. I feel that as Benj has made it so easy for us to score as we go, we owe it to him to rank any film we have seen. It doesn't have to be an exact science but considering our reviews are not classed by purists as such at least voting lends the site credibility as a film review site. If I haven't seen a film I will not vote, even if I have several reviews on it (sounds like a dubious confession but surely I can't be alone?). Don't ask me about 'Snakes On A Plane', I just woke up and they came to me like when Moses tripped out on that hill - I didn't even have any burning bush to help me.
Sign Language - I'm with Benj and Sean? over the words vs. equations issue. I admit to being a bit creative with some of my words but at least they are words and I do my best to stick within 4 legitimate words. The way I see it is that '+' and '=' are 'and' and 'is'. As Benj says, a colon can replace an equals sign but a '+' may as well be an '&' which is an 'et' or 'and' as we say in Angleland. There are old reviews which do not stand up to present guidelines for other reasons and I think that symbols should be out of bounds especially those which constitute a fifth word.
Okay as promised, some of my recent outlawed reviews 'For Your Consideration For Inclusion.' After all, that at least takes us back to the original subject of this thread started by my current avatar co-star. These have all been resubmitted after checking facts and altered accordingly inc. explanations, then rejected again.
Watership Down
Star-bucks' Expressway.
This was another film which I had a stream of ideas for. This one began life as 'Starbucks Express.' and was resubmitted twice in order to satisfy requirements. Rabbits are stars of film, some of them bucks, and they have a main highway to cross.
Rhubarb
Rhubarb: Rhubarb, rhubarb, rhubarb.
This film just has the word rhubarb making up the dialogue for all cast. Yes I know I'm not Benj and I can't have an identical review repeated twice (liked it btw) but this is legit innit?
E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial
Spielberg's Speak & Shpiel.
This took mega effort to shoehorn into 4 words and was changed more times than my avatar. My one line explanation thesis was a feat in itself. Anyone who has seen Alan Sugar in 'The Apprentice' will have heard him use the word 'shpiel' in the context of lengthy chat. It is a Jewish word which comes from the German for talking. I'm a graphic artist and the way words look together is important to me. I like the way this looks as well as sounds. Original version had 'Steven hawking' ie. selling, product placement and referring to 'Stephen' Hawking using Speak & Spell for communication.
Blow Dry
Beaufoy's 'Men Beehiving Badly'.
Well I added Beaufoy's name to shake off the generic tag but it was still rejected. Film was set in the sixties when beehives were in, and being a black comedy some of the hairdressers were pretty bad so it is factually accurate. Anyone not familiar with 'Men Behaving Badly' must be due for a visit to the UK - Undisputed cultural hub of er.. Britain.

War to wall Bra'Pitt.
As in 'Carpet'. Technically this is a five worder but as it sounds like four I thought it deserved a brief airing even if it doesn't qualify.
Snakes On A Plane
Snake's 7(47).
As in 'Blake's 7'. Loads of references to this classic sci-fi on the net. So one is a spaceship and one is an aeroplane, does size really count?

Yes, God told me that I would save a soul for every 'Snakes On A Plane' review I thought of. I was doing so well until my relapse today when I wrote a couple of reviews for 'Chatterbox'. If they get accepted then I doubt I will be elligible to further extend my word limit at 'Movies for Christians.' Sorry, the review was a nod to the ill-fated 'Laker Airways' home of Freddie Laker's Skybus. I just noted my 'deliberate' mistake there. Benj if you accept 'Snaker Airways' I will send you a scan of Freddie using an Apple ][ computer in a magazine ad.
Rainbow Coloured Disco Dancer, The
Y.M.C.A. in R.O.Y.G.B.I.V.
Not as good as my other review for this film which I haven't even seen, but I can't see why it was rejected.
I would be interested to know whether anyone likes any of my battered reviews above. If you like, think of it as voting to save them from eviction. I am still trying to work out what is important here. I get my kicks from seeing a string of cleverly thought out reviews. Votes are nice, as is moving up the ranking but I know which of my reviews are worthy and the competition I enjoy here is in giving the best writers a run for their money. I have written in many different places and I recognise the high skill level here. If I receive legitimate criticism then I utilise it to improve - any that I dosh out I hope is similarly received.
I think I may take the day off tomorrow - Benj said this here site has a reputation of claiming literary agents of fortune. Nice to see so many pendings rattled through earlier - well done MERPS. |

"Y.M.C.A." in ROYGBIV.
and explained that it is the acronym for the first letters of the colours of the rainbow, which is also the Gay Pride flag, and Y.M.C.A is a famous (semi-disco) song by The Village People, who are Gay icons.
If it gets accepted, I'll vote for it - I think its a great review.

'Blake's 7' has nothing to do with 'Snakes On A Plane'. I'm very opposed to just slapping two completely unrelated things together because they sound alike- there should be some shared element that by pairing the two (or more) things up makes an interesting parallel. And once you take 'Blake's 7' out of the equation, all you have is 'Snakes 747' oddly bracketed  |

Okay, thanks all for your input. I now have enough to go on to know which reviews to ask Benj to reconsider, with his decision obviously being final.
Well it looks like I'm going to be skulking around the playground with Whippersnapper muttering rhubarb, rhubarb under my breath. I suppose I can tell myself that it is a duplicate review and imagine Whippy's one up there. Likewise with your 'men beehiving' review, I obviously hadn't seen it but it seems to be unsaid protocol not to have duplicates across different films.
War to wall - good so far, Bra'Pitt - like Baftababe said there's this big pit in the film I think there was carpet somewhere? When I watch Snakes On A Plane I will be looking so darned hard for Blake's 7 references  . 'Snaker Airways.' was never really going to get off the ground as Freddie Laker was so crap that people wouldn't remember him anyway. I think he was 'successful' at the same time as John DeLorean. 'Back to the Future' really saved his street cred non?

YMCA in ROYGBIV is being resubmitted. I originally did it without the dots and it looks less messy. I few people got it and Chocolate Lady even added merit to it with the gay reference, thanks[25]
Spielberg's Speak & Spiel I would like to see accepted too. Shpiel is the correct Jewish spelling and I like to get things right. Spiel however looks more like 'spell' and was my original spelling before checking. 'Spiel' is in more common usage so I will go for that one, especially as it reflects the director's name. The Speak & Spell is not a major part of the film but it does feature prominantly and how many other reviews only refer to a particular scene in a movie? Cool Speak & Spell Emulator

Actually, I don't have a problem with this (although don't know if the declining editor(s) had some reason I haven't spotted). No probs with there being an unrelated pun as long as once the unrelated pun is removed, the fwfr still makes sense by itself  |

| Oooh that browser problem seems to have righted itelf now ChocolateFriend (Insert back rub smilie here) Thanks also to any unknown benefactors who have encouraged me to continue writing, without getting brain ache thinking they were all wide of the mark. Having a good day so far the smilies are now all looking great thanks to Benj and his technowhizz friends here. I just got cheap home contents insurance through my mate's wife and he said that if my Mac gets nicked I could get a PC - he was only pulling my leg of course. |
