Woo hoo!

I can't believe how many of my reviews have been 'dealt with' in the last 48 hours.

Normally it seems like I'm lucky to get 2 or 3 reviews accepted in any 48 hour period, but I've just gone from having about 35 'pending' to only 6 'pending' since yesterday moring!!

Ok - so 10 or so went to the decline bucket. But I've still had close to 20 reviews accepted.

Only problem now is, I've got to fill up that pending list again.

Yep, my pending pile is clear too - apart from a few new films to be added. Creeping toward the 400 mark slowly and surely...

Why on earth would you want to do that?

It's been mentioned by benj in the fourum before that whenever the MERPs get on top of the backlog, people go on a reviewing blitz and FILL UP THE BACKLOG AS FAST AS THEY POSSIBLY CAN!

This is self-destructive behaviour. I don't think anyone likes having to wait for a week or two for reviews to be processed (as it was recently), but then when the editors clean everything out, reviewers make absolutely sure that they undo the good work as fast as they can and get the wait-time back to 1-2 weeks again as quickly as possible. I know this is what happened last time the backlog was cleaned out, as the wait-time went from 1-day up to 2-weeks very quickly and then stayed there. You just can't help some people.

I've got no reviews pending except for Unadded movies. If I find some inspiration I'll write a review. If I don't find any inspiration, then I won't write a review. Is there anything wrong with an empty pending list?

I've been at fwfr for 3.5 years, which is long enough to know that the site takes a lot of work to maintain. New movies to add (there's a 3-month waitlist just for this). Reviews to process. Reviews on the wrong movie to move. Spelling errors to fix. There's a big backlog of stuff waiting in the Site Maintenance section. How can benj process this stuff and add all the new movies if there's a 2-week waitlist simply for review processing? I wish that some people would stop taking everything for granted. I'm fairly sure benj doesn't make any money out of this site, and that the MERPs are unpaid.

I'd hate to see benj one day say "Fuckit, I've had 6-years of fun here, but now it's taking up too much time and I think I'll pull the plug". (I've got no idea if benj thinks this way or not, but I'd hate to test him on it).

Let's not bite the hand that feeds us, folks.

It's a new record for me -- 50 approvals in one day! And my pending pile is down to 0 except for the films that have to be added.

Thank you to the MERPS!

Yep all mine were processed too. Thanks to whoever did it.

Edit: benj is a away for a while, comes back, and then all the reviews are cleaned out.

Ditto - but the MERPs got ALL of my reviews that weren't for new films. Hurrah!

Sean - I'm a close friend of Benj Clews and I can assure you he's now a millionaire thanks to FWFR. He and his MERPs spend most of their afternoons hanging out poolside at the Playboy mansion, eating grilled swan and drinking pints of humming bird tears. They even pay a slave to count all the cash they've made.

Damalc - you won't have to worry about me much longer ... when my completed accolades hit 100, I'm bowing out of FWFR and regaining the life I used to have (I've currently got 92 or 93 completed accolades).

I wouldn't go that far. The pending pile is part of what keeps this site going. Building it up as high as possible before the MERPs knock it over and then we see which way it spills...

...if there wasn't that tension and everybody felt the same wouldn't the site just stagnate?

All hail to the MERPs for their fine work of late!!

Yes, wouldn't it be terrible if people wrote new reviews!

I think what tends to happen when the backlog goes down is that standards drop.

I start to see things submitted that I don't imagine would have been submitted when there were 100 other reviews already pending for that person. I also see a more scattershot approach to reviewing- three or four rewordings of the same review.

I don't have a problem with shedloads of reviews being submitted as long as you're submitting sensibly- please try to maintain your quality control to help the MERPs keep the backlog low.

Damn, knew I should've volunteered to be a MERP in 2004!
