Actually, it's not that much of a coincidence. It's a well-known counterintuitive result that you only need to get 24 or so people together before chances are better than 50-50 a pair of them share a birthday.

Happy birthday.

But surely the 24 thing is for any unspecified pair. Given a specific person mentioning his birthday (chazbo) or given being a specific person (you), it is still a coincidence if another person out of 24 has that birthday. (I realise that you are probably a mathematician and I am asking for trouble... )

Absolutely. But I figured the unspecified pair was a better fit for this scenario, since chazbo could just have easily been anyone mentioning at any time of year that they just had a birthday. So when I called it a coincidence, I was referring more to any two fourumites (or any two participants in this round of FYCTH) sharing a birthday.

If you fix someone (which is the same thing as fixing a birthday), then you need 40 more people to get a 10% chance of sharing that birthday. So viewed from that perspective, it is a coincidence.

They're all good, though (those five, not "'High Noon' in space"!) - I've voted for all five.

Seein' as no one had done this for Keith Moon, I'm crossing my fingers for approval there.
