Dear Santa Clews:

What I want for Christmas is a list of the top 20 vote-getting reviews of films released in 2006. I have been a very good boy. Can you deliver these before Xmas so we can send them on to local media types?

I promise to leave you spiked egg nog and homemade shortbread.

Thank you
R.G.

I've sent copies of the list to Peter Howell of the Toronto Star, whose column introduced me to this site, Jim Emerson of the Chicago Sun-Times, whose review's headlines are often FWFR-worthy, and CBC radio's Feedback, who interviewed Benj on air earlier this year. If you want to do the same, please list your recipients here so we don't cause duplicates. I usually preface the letter with some variation of this:

quote:
...yadda, yadda, yadda the website www.fwfr.com - the Four Word Film Review. As you may know, the site allows users to submit cogent, funny or accurate reviews of any film in cinematic history, as long as that critique is limited to a maximum of four words.

Annually the site's moderator, Benj Clews, gathers the reviews for films released in the current calendar year as selected by fellow reviewers. Then FWFR's around the world submit the list to local media types to publicize the site and give out a Christmas giggle. Here, for your amusement and that of your readers, are the top twenty FWFRs of 2006. It includes popular films, cult films that lend themselves to jokes, and documentaries. You may use any or all the list in your column, as long as the website is attributed.

I also strip off the vote count and contributors' names to tighten the list up.

If you include mine please make it Conan the Westy rather than any variation I'm using at the time.

I would think that the top reviews of the top films of 2006 might be better...while we all love it, I doubt the mainstream media cares about reviews for "Zombie Prom."

Yes, I agree. I also think it would be better to use just one review for each film.

7 Over the Hedge - Bruce Willis: Die Yard.
8 Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby - Ferrell's Daze of Thunder.
9 Happy Feet - Dance of the Penguins.
10 Click - Man-of-pause.
11 Mission: Impossible III - Cruise, Hoffman. No autism.
12 Casino Royale - 'Royale' without cheese.

Ummm...should it bother me that on the film where I was tied for first, you only chose one of the two reviews, with mine being the one you excluded?

Where there was a tie, I tried to pick the review that the mainstream media would care about.

Touche. But it's actually the outright top vote-getter now with one more vote...I swear to God it really wasn't me!

Of course it's not so important anyway because people can use whatever reviews they want when promoting FWFR.

Yeah! Forward it to the media. Maybe RogerEbert.com might bite. They published something about us before and they seemed starved for content since Roger has been absent for so long.
