Eragon
A farmboy living with his uncle in a remote location and who doesn't know details about his mother discovers that he is destined to become a knight. An embittered knight, one of the last of the previous generation, is conveniently living nearby in the guise of a hermit. The boy learns to be a great flier and to develop his magical powers. He receives a message from a mysterious and beautiful girl with whom he has a special connection. A son is good despite his father being evil. The old knight regains his honour by dying a valiant death in battle. At some point in the future (i.e. in a hoped-for sequel), the boy is fated to vanquish the evil ruler who used to be one of the knights before turning on them. Hhmmm, now where have I seen that before?
At least his name/the presence of ogres and elves are copied from a different story.
Apparently, the film bears little relation to the novel other than the characters' names. I'd already bought it for one of my cousin's children for Christmas; hopefully it's a bit better. |

I've just seen that Eragon has been added, but I've had it pending for a long time (since when it definitely wasn't added), during which time I've added a review. Please could that be processed, and whenever a new film is added, please could a check be done for all reviews that are already pending? Thanks. |

In the next movie, Eragon makes friends with a talking oven mitt and learns that his parents didn't really leave him with his uncle, one of them is now emperor king.
My kids liked it, so I guess it's good enough. It was that or another talking pig movie, and the talking animals are getting to be just a bit much for this dad of three. |

Heh, my "fleeing John Malcovich" was declined as too generic.

Just some generic guy. Wouldn't want to be him. |
