One of my favorite reviews that I have written in a long time has been declined. It was "An inconvenient tooth" for Oh, My Achin' Tooth!. It was also apparently one of the favorites of others on this site since it got more than 20 votes in one recent FYC. It was declined for being "too generic." Can somebody explain this to me? It seems to me that this is a case where that review fits that specific film better than any other film. I appeal to all of you who voted for it to write your congressmen until that review gets posted back up again.  |

While the review is cute (and very timely), they may be right. If I plug the word "toothache" into IMDb's keyword search, I come up with 15 films - and this one isn't included.
Perhaps you could find a way to make it specific to it being an Abbot and Costello movie.

Exactly. As far as I'm concerned, if the review is funny, and is even mildly applicable to the film, then it should stay. Funny is better than accurate in my book; though I know I am in the minority here.

I agree with Gentleman Ghost. Either it stays as it is or I won't submit anything at all. "Costello's inconveniet tooth" would probably pass, but its a big dilution of the joke. |

I was thinking about this one and wondered whether you could find a public information (or other factual) film about toothache or dentistry. Because the genre would then be relevant, it might not count as generic.
Alternatively, how about Cast Away? Often a review being relevant to a very well known modern film is enough, even if there are other films to which it can also apply. Also, the tooth is a lot more inconvenient for Hanks's character than it would be for characters who can just go to the dentist. |

I tried submitting it for He Pulled the Wrong Tooth (1903). We'll see what happens.
EDIT: It was accepted! Now if everyone who voted for it the first time would vote for it now, I would really appreicate it. I'm putting it in my FYC. Thanks in advance. |
