I picked up on the MERP thread about review backlogs, people whingeing and so on. I felt bad, because as someone new I have also made posts asking about the review backlog and so on (mostly because my bad reviews seem to be the ones regularly picked up!). I was sorry to see that benj was brought low by negativity - although he very nicely answered a PM about one of my reviews.
Benj, have you considered putting a link on the home page, the one new people stumble across when surfing, stating some of the facts about the site - it's free, MERPS review for free and are only human, what will and won't be accepted as a review, that if there is a backlog patience is required, so get into the Fourum and have some fun? I can assure you this would have helped me settle in more quickly. I am only now beginning to appreciate the depth of this site by surfing through it. In the beginning I just wanted to get a review on the list!

Dear Shivvy [and any others who might be lurking],
First of all, welcome to our little community. I have heard that there are other corners of the Internet where people are not nearly so civil, so I'm very glad I hang here instead.
Whenever you log in to fwfr, you'll find a band near the top of the page, one selection of which is FAQs. Maybe benj could make it more obvious somehow, but I think he's decided that if you want the "rules," here's where a common net term brings them to you. If there's something else you might need to know, there's a place in this part of the fourum that allows you to inquire.
Hang out in the broader fourum and you'll eventually discern that there are really only two rules:
1) Four words or fewer.
2) Keep 'em coming!

It took me six months to really get into the fourum and become addicted to getting as many votes as possible while keeping the reviews coming.
Once you have cracked it it's really worth hanging around and having a little fun. |
