I saw this the other day, and loved it. But I'm wondering how other FWFR's felt about it, and if I was perhaps influenced by the numerous glowing reviews I read.
The more I think about the movie, the better I think it was. I can't wait to see it again.
Any thoughts?  |

Hi Silly: Here's my capsule review:
Children of Men betrays its literary roots, but -- whatever your politics - should be seen if only to remind ourselves of the metaphorical tightrope we're all walking. Cuar�n reaches directorial heights but all too sporadically, and needs to study Ridley Scott just a bit more closely. Moore, as always, is superb; both Owen and Caine had moments that brought real tears. Ashitey's suitably sassy as well as vulnerable, and if you were a fan of Ejiofor in Kinky Boots, you probably won't even recognise him.

I need to see Kinky Boots, I loved him in Serenity and Dirty Pretty Things (to name two)
I think it's a must see, too. My wife put her foot down and said "absolutely not." See, we're both infertile  so it's a bit of a sore subject. I, however, am a masochist, too  and I wanted to see what "might" happen should the rest of the population catch up with us... |

Children of Men
I really liked it. I think it will keep 5/5 even when I downgrade my scores. I do like post-apocalyptic scenarios and similar in general, but I also particularly liked the fact that (despite the change in time/atmosphere) it really felt like Britain, which is not the case in most Hollywood films. Closer is similar in this respect. |

Watched Kinky Boots last night and loved it. I don't know how I missed it (other than I'm sure it didn't play in the theater here, our town doesn't show a movie with "kinky" in the title even if it were about growing flowers or something)
Am I alone in being extremely glad they did not cast Hugh Grant as Charlie?  |

| I thought it sucked. Bad pacing, bad central performance, and I didn't care whether man survived or not. A little worrying that such a topical film evokes utter apathy. |

I loved it and would gladly see it again, however, the more I think about the movie, the less I respect it on a story level and the more I respect it on a technical level. |

| Not the best dystopian fare, but extremely well staged. I love it when explosions happen not far off in the distance but right over your shoulder, especially when you're a Hitchcockian innocent. Master Owen displayed two facial expressions exceptionally well. |

I just caught this on DVD . Wow! One of the most convincing dystopias ever.
It was also a look into how a "civilised" society can dissolve into near anarchy. The scenes at the refugee camp with the army fighting the rebellion had echoes of Stalingrad, Beirut ,Sarajevo - ie a Western style city reduced to street fighting. All in green and pleasant England.
A little too convincing. |

I've had this netflixed for a while, but the fukkaz ain't sent it out yet. 
Although I'm glad I didn't get it this week, I've had my dystopia-fix for the week. I watched Time of the Wolf, man Haneke can be depressing.

Watched it last night with high hopes, and was very disappointed too.
Cliched, unrealistic in its portrayal of the trivial, the imagery far too overt, poorly acted and with minimal character development. Could have been so much more. |

I missed this thread. Like Baftababe I loved the book and the movie did steer quite wide from is source material. But there was so much more to the book especially on the political front that it was inevitable.
As a stand alone movie I enjoyed the starkness of a world without children where all the adults are slightly immature and naive as a result. I'm glad Owen didn't get Bond as he is proving himself to be a versitile actor in roles like this and The Inside Man.

You do have something there. While I thought that Owen would be a far better Bond than Craig, it does leave him free for more varied parts. I'd like to see him in a comedy, as well.
