Quite enjoyed this one, second best of Rocky movies for me, and a sequel that doesn't at all seem out of place in terms of the main character and where he is now.. at the end of the day, you know what you're going to get from a Rocky movie though!

Rocky Balboa
Me too. Nothing earth-shattering, but he's a likeable character and I think I'll remember it better than all the middle ones, which blur together for me. It would have been nice had Sage Stallone played the son again, though. (He was going to but had other commitments.) He looks like he could be Sly's son, for a start. I was born just a few days before him (in the year that Rocky was released) and have got another connection with him (that's personal - but not in the least interesting or sensational!), so I would have liked it for that reason too.
I didn't really like the inclusion of Marie and Steps - they had no real storyline and were just there to give him extra supporters in the fight. |

Re the sequel, I thought the same thing, and also in a perfect world, wouldn't this have been an absolutely brilliant Rocky II..? having said that, this movie wouldn't exist if it wasn't for the fan-base Stallone built with the sequels..
I thought Marie and Steps were useful enough characters, because Marie is a link to Rocky's past at a time when that's all he can think about, but they're also a family, which is something Rocky wants.. not the best characters by any means, but i don't think they were completely pointless.. i actually thought Marie was quite good in it At least she wasn't as annoying as Talia Shire!!
Paulie had all the best lines though. Burt Young's a legend, he's great in Transamerica as well. |
