Them
Warning: There's a worse spoiler than that below on the above page.
Does anyone know whether this based on a true story or not? There seem to be numerous conflicting statements about it.
It's very short (about 70 minutes excluding the credits), so is worth giving a go unless you really like your horror to be extreme.
Query: Are the mother and daughter in the car speaking Romanian? I thought that Romanian sounded like a Romance language with a Slavic accent, but this just sounded generally Slavic to me. |

Hey, dude ... read my review! It is based on a true story but different nationalities!
Yes, the people at the beginning are speaking Roumanian ... which you rightly id as a Romance language, but is a kind melding with slavic ... not surprising considering the geography. You can hear it more clearly at Clem's school, and when she's on the phone to the cops.

Oops, I skipped the first couple of paragraphs as I thought they were just plot summary. Anyway, thanks - that explains it. I had read a Romanian somewhere saying with certainty that no such thing ever happened around Bucharest. I think it is a bit odd to change the country without explanation, especially when the country is not put in a positive light, but I still think it is a good film. I didn't find it overlong either, although you are right that it could have been fitted into half an hour. |
